Adding Mods to insurance
I've just insured my car but now want to add some mod's, nothing major, Spolier, bonnet scoop, cat back exhaust. Do i just phone the insurers and tell them or do I cancel existing insurance and then get a new quote/insureance with the mod's? Anyone got any experience of doing this?

Ring them up and explain what you want to do, never do the mods and then ring them always the other way round. No need to cancel unless the company you are with does not insure modified cars. Normally they just then charge an amount for the addition to the car /modifying of the policy.

I am with Aplan, phoned them before mods fitted to check, but as my insurance was almost due I waited till renewal before fitting some of them, I then got them to ask underwriter about mods, got sti 8 spoiler, winglets, prodrive backbox and sti brembos all declared, cost me an extra £20 but was worth it in case something went wrong

I've just added new alloys and Sti8 spoiler - tesco's charged me £50 for the remaining 7 months.
My advice is always to declare mods as it would be gutting if you had a problem and you weren't covered.
