Default cant find a cheap insurer ?

ok im thinking of buying a import wrx sti in next few days.

however i cant seem to get a good quote, been onto gocompair.com and cheapest was 1272 with 400 excess

Greenlight wants £1372.70

Endsleigh £2,051.89

performance direct Premium: £1,272.40 Excess: £400.00

2 yrs no claims and 37 ys of age, thought it would be cheaper than that

anyone suggest a good insurer? as seen younger people with low no claims and its alot less than what i have been quoted so far

Keith Michaels internet quotes arent usually their best prices. If you have some experience of driving quick cars before then telephone and ask to speak to Gary Moulson (not just Gary, as theres a whole raft of Garys).

tryed bell.co.uk and its £1390.48 fully comp :/ seems to be getting more expensive.

i tryed bell as i know a guy whos 22 yrs old 0 no claims and hes only paying 1500 with bell, and mine is only 120 quid cheaper and i have 2 yrs no claims and nearly double his age that price is just insane.

i emailed A plan but had no responce yet.

I'm paying £1200 fully comp n i got 2 years no claims and im 23!!!!!

Age does not matter according to insurance.

Are you a careful driver , if so don't worry about excess

I went with Gary @ Keith Michaels; all my mods are insured under the policy, new for old replacement IIRC.

UK WRX with a fair few STI body parts, aftermarket wheels, remap, etc etc - all insured and less than £600 (think it's around £550 but don't quote me on that) fully comp, 10 year's protected NCD, no points - I'm 30.

Privilege are quite cheap for non-modified but require a tracker on the car - I was with them before I started my modding...

Another vote for APlan - they were the most competitive by far for me (mine's not an import though) - speak to Lee.

Mate sorry but in my exprience that's just not true - it's a combination of things - past accidents, points, NCD and age - BTW 25 used to be the accepted landmark year when it falls.

When I hit 25 my insurance fell by about £300 a year.
2 year's no claims also won't entitle you to an enormous discount - once you get to 4 or 5 it starts to count - I'd protect it when you get to 3!

What are other people's experiences?

I had a similar dillema a while back, even though I am 36, clean license, 9 yrs ncb, no accidents, car garaged etc etc, the quotes I was getting was all around the £800-£900 mark with the usual A Plan/ KM ins co's.

My modded Uk STI was only £700 the year before?

In the end I went for a UK classic and modded it.

i was told by a insurer a jap import is no more expensive than a uk model

i then spoke to another insurer firm and quoted over 2 grand, she said what is it your details are fine but because you dont have experience with a high performance car thats why the premium is high.

i did go on to tell her i had a 2.0 zetec turbo 310bhp 2 years ago and was insured for a year with it so i have experience with a high performance car and she said that wont count :-/

i will phone Keith Michaels and a-plan tommorow.

anyone suggest any other firm that deals with import car insurance

Well, the first problem i had with a few people was they didn't have the RA listed on their system. The second was the mods, soon as i said what i'd done(or was going to do),the price went silly.
I rang A-Plan,they had the car on file, and the mods(look at my profile),which im running around 330-340bhp,fully comp,protected,10ync,3 points( ) came out at £600 I also live in a high risk area that is the lovely Luton!

I have a 94 plate WRX and am 27 with 4 years NCD.

Originally my current insurer Swinton were asking me to actually pay the same I was already, about £1150 I think, A-Plan beat it with £840, and would protect my NCD. Then Swinton came back with £836 (including the 8% or so interest charge for paying monthly) and would match what A-Plan were offering.

Stuck with Swinton as was just less hassle!

Believe the lady who sorted it out at Swinton was called Rupinder or something like that. Was really helpful. Wrote down the name, can check if anyone needs.

Did you declare that you leave the doors and windows open all night?

MY06 STi (ok it is a UK car) mildly modified. I am 31, no points and have max no claims (8 years).

I pay £550 with Tesco and that is with legal cover and protected no claims.

Another vote for Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels.

MY06 Spec C Type 20, me + wife (36 & 32) fully comp, outer west mids - £600 (£400 excess)

Very similar prices for imports compared to UK cars also
