If both I and a 3rd party claim for damage caused in the same accident, does that count as 1 claim 'cos it was only 1 accident, or 2 claims?
Cheers,

It's a long time since I studied property insurance law, but I do seem to remember that third parties can't claim off your policy directly - what happens is that they are claiming off you personally and you are then indemnified by the insurance policy. OK, in practice it doesn't work like that but that's the theory. So I'd say the answer to your question is "one claim".

I believe 1 claim...unless there are some strange circumstances that you haven't mentioned...

I presume that you "touched" the TP and there was damage to your car as well as theirs?...i.e. you are making a claim under your own Accidental Damage section of a Comprehensive policy, and as stated above the TP is claiming for damaged sustained to his/her vehicle (again covered by your policy/insurer)...

Hope this (sort of) helps...

Yes, Rum is right, there was a collision and the 3rd party is trying to claim off my insurance (well, their insurance is). 1 claim is good as I have protected no claims, so in theory my premiums won't go up next renewal (yeah right!).
Thanks!

Thumbs up

One incident (ie one collision) equals one claim.

As you've got a protected bonus your policy renewal wont be effected by the loss of discount from the claim but will still be effected by general increases in prices etc........
