when phoneing around for insurance qoutes today a few places asked if i was a member of an owners club like this, saying they did discount for members??
is this so they can check what you post and what changes you make to the car or is it because you are then classed as an enthusiast??

You'd be classed as an enthusiast I suppose. It would have to be membership to a club, like the SIDC for instance, where you pay an annual fee for a member number and a variety of other benefits. Forums like this don't count as membership to a car club for insurance.

Because you are classed as an enthusiast.
You do get a discount being a member of a forum, but you'll get a bigger discount if you are a paid up member of a club (SIDC for example)
