Just look at how much STi v5's were going for brand new though! your looking at 27k+ so even now as the P1 is a limited edition and considering that it does have a full dealer warranty etc its going to hold its price better.

I think the valid issue he is trying to make is that you can get P1 looks(ish) and performance at a far reduced cost by going the Sti coupe way.
And yes, a P1 probably will hold its residual value for longer, this historically was shown by Williams over 16v Clios.
But the next question is will the owner loose the whole £5k saving he has made?. Bear in mind that he may well have to have taken a £5k loan out to buy said P1, which would cost him £7kover three years.

Why wait for a P1 or spend so much on one?
I bought my Sti V5 for 16K 14 months ago. 20K on clock, FSH, 17 alloys with Uk type springs etc
Yep import does cost you in terms of insurance.
I'm 27 6 years full no claims. 1400 pounds with Hyperformance *not too bad seeing as I live in London). How much would a P1 be? 1200?
My StiV5 is so similar to a P1 its amazing how Subaru got away with the price. Ok I'll admit if the price differece second hand was a grand or 2 I'd go with the P1 but the saving is at least 5 grand! Anyway P1s are all blue, no colour range.
My STi is V reg and has cost no more than servicing costs, which are identical to a UK turbo. No problem in parts too.
Makes sense to me. Why wait 2 years when we'll be on Sti V9 or something......

Maybe because its limited edition. Maybe because your not comparing like for like. You cant import a P1. You can import a WRX for around £5k less but people still buy them in this country. Imports will also fetch less on the 2nd hand market.
