Insurance Subaru Impreza insurance can be expensive, as with any performance car insurance. But the cheapest car insurance isn't always the best. Share your quotes, and experiences.

Question

My insurance is due for renewal on 4th May (this saturday!)

When it was taken out last year, I had an M3 convertible, full no claims and no points on my licence. My premium was £972. When I bought my MY98 STi wagon in August they initially said they could not insure a Japanese Import but then relented and agreed to do it for the remainder of the term for an additional £50.

Now I have; 1 accident claim, 1 stolen car claim (£17,000 pay out for M3 which was carjacked but has since been found)and one claim which was not my fault in any way and which I am claiming through the third party but for some reason must be counted as a claim off my insurance until it is settled.

I still have no points on my licence but an endorsement for a 28 day ban for speeding.

After chasing my insurance broker for my renewal figure this morning, they are telling me that although they will take the risk it will cost me £5340!!!!! My insurance brokers, Hill House Hammond say I should look elsewhere and that I may be able to get a better premium from a small independant broker.

I now have only two days to sort it out. WHERE DO I START?????

Lizzy

Thumbs up

We just got insured..be it a Sport..for £531 fully comp with a main driver and a named driver with BUDGET insurance (0800 028 9044). They seemed pretty good and it was over £200 cheaper than anyone else, worth a try !

I'd say your best bet would be to try Rum at Schofields.

Seejay 555, Spoke to Dean at Schofields - he was very nice and extremely helpful, but just couldn't get anything under £4K. Its just the whole combination of import/accidents/theft and ban!!!!

The sad thing is that i've been driving for 25 years without making any claims or having any points!!!!...till now

Will try the other suggestions - thanks guys

Well, after 5 hours of ringing round and not a single quote under £4,000, and some not even wanting to quote, I had just about given up

Tesco quoted £4113 but suggested I ring Priviledge Insurance who were initially surprised as they said that Tesco were usually cheaper, but said they'd do a quote if I really wanted.

Got a very nice lady who pleaded with the underwriters on my behalf and came up with a price of £2769 but with £1000 excess. (will just have to be really really careful!) Also I have to fit a tracker - so I am about to get some quotes for that too but I am told its about £300.

Also, once the non-fault accident is settled I will get a refund straigh away.

Lizzy (feeling a little happier but a lot poorer)

Just having the Tracker fitted at the moment - Didn't realise it was so expensive when I told the insurance company I would get it done. Had cheapest version and it was £429 + £99 p.a.

I am soooo skint - just think what sort of a holiday I could have had with £3K
