boost guages

There a complete gimmick unless you actually intent to race/rally!
Although I must admit I find the oil temp guage very useful so I know when the engine is warm enough to give it a bit of stick! I keep it below 4k rpm before the temp settles (around 70 degrees).
I thnk they look pretty good when there fitted in the console as mine - standard guages fitted by dealer...

Allright, maybe not strictly necessary on the basis that it's not like you're setting up the wastegate pressures yourself (well I wouldn't have a clue anyway!), but pretty trick nonetheless. why not go for it?

I dont think of a boost guage as a gimmick at all!
If you're intending to/have modified your car at all (esp something simple like a Dawes device which controls boost) you will want to know what boost you're running when you're setting up the car.
However, if your car is standard and staying that way then I guess you'll be fine without one.
It depends whether you're into drivetrain mods really....

I HAVE A BOOST GUAGE AND AIR/FUEL METER FOR PEACE OF MIND. IF YOUR CARS MODIFIED AT ALL ITS GOOD TO KEEP TABS ON WHATS GOING ON. NOTICING A LEAN MIXTURE OR OVERBOOST COULD SAVE YOU A LOT OF CASH IN THE LONG TERM.

Following on your mail, Dawes claim you can fit their boost controller in 15 mins and bypass the computer wastegate control - sounds a bit punchy! Ever had a go or know anyone who has? it also looks suspiciously cheap...

Its cheap because its a very simple device - a while ago there was some debate on here that they were actually too expensive given their very basic nature.
Plenty of people on this BBS have a Dawes Device fitted and provided you can monitor the boost you're running as you adjust the device (hence the need for a boost guage) then they have given very good results.
Ask around for satisfied customers and I think you'll find quite a few.

Good things boost gauges I fitted one today, took it for a blast, noticed it was low boost, did engine sensor check and found a pressure sensor fault that I didn't know I had. So it could have saved me from a bigger problem later on Every turbo should have one!
