22b dash - head unit removal?
#2
Still don't know quite where to start!
Let me explain, the dash has the space for twin head units, though the single head unit that is currently in the car can not be removed without taking the front panal off the dash.
I don't know how to take this panal off to give me access to the head unit.
Help!

OK. David here we go.
1. Open the Cubby box lid behind Hand brake lever, have a look at where the h/brake ski-slope meets the cubby box. You will see 2x round grey plastic covers (about 8mm in diameter) Prise these off with a small screwdriver & they will reveal 2x fixing screws. Remove said screws & lift the ski-slope out of the way (This is fixed at the front by 2x self locating clips)
2. Grab the gear leaver gaitor where it meets the gear **** & work it downwards until it becomes detached. Unscrew the gear **** in an anti-clockwise direction. Now you need to persuade the gaitor and surrounding trim to let go of the center console. (Don't worry it's only held in place by clips, Just lift it gently from the back end)
3. Open the ashtray & depress the metal flap, Remove ashtray. Place your hand in the opening and pull the bottom of the panel towards you. This is the most difficult part of trim to remove as the clips for this are quite strong! Once the bottom of the panel has been released you can work your way up the sides until the complete assay comes away. Disconnect wiring connectors and put trim to one side.
4. At this point it is probably wise to protect the edges of the center console, as they are easily marked by the metal cage of the radio.
5. You now have access to the 4x fixing screws that hold the metal cage in place. Remove these and ease the cage forward. Lay the cage down by the gear lever & disconnect All the block connectors. (Hope you've protected that console!)
And there you have it, One cage complete with Stereo.
Just realised. It takes longer to type this out than it does to do the job!!
Regards
Phil
