Default Gaiter Removal

Before I destroy it

Anyone any idea how you detach the gear **** from the gaiter on an 06 wrx. Unscrewed it and it seems to be held on by some sort of plastic clip so not sure if its brut force and ignorance to get it off or there is a way of it comming off properly,

Cheers,

Unscrew the gear **** fully so that it can lift up (it's a long thread), then hold the top of the gaiter firmly with one hand (so as not to pull the bottom mount of the gaiter) and pull the gear **** with the other.

It is just a clip, but it does take quite a tug.

Cue innuendo jokes...

Hello:
To remove the Gear ****:
1- Unscrew the Gear **** in an anti-clock wise direction [it take a while....because it is screwed like 3 or 4 c.m. in the Shift Stick]
2- Remove the Gear **** after being Loose from the Gaiter:
By: Holding the Leather of the Gaiter with on hand and pulling out the Gear **** from it with the other hand.....it only requires some guts to perform this.....it is just like 2 hooks holding each other....u can try to pull it out by moving it in front and back moves while remaing holding the gaiter in place....u should have removed it by now....then to return it to its place just puch the gear **** hard inside the gaiters....leather....
If u r installing a new Gear ****...you wont be able to use the white plastic part in the Gaiter...u will have to remove it .....and then measure the exact size where the Gear **** will rest in the Shift Stick....then mark it with some mark, then try using some tape to thicken the shift stick at the mark you placed, so than once u place the gaiter inside the shift stick....it will rest on the thickened tape u have put.....and then install the new gear ****.....then there will be no distance between the Gear **** and the Gaiter...
Congrats....

take a look at my profile pictures....i made it in my 06 Scooby

that's useful but if you get a Rally-Tech gearknob with the lip, you do re-use the white plastic collar in the gaiter; you can just push the new **** into the collar.
