Blobeye speaker upgrades
Hi,
I'm sure I'm not the only one to find the standard speakers terrible so I was wondering what people recommend as replacements all round?
I'm not after stupidly loud or expensive but want them to have a good kick without distorting with some bass.
Thanks

To stae the obvious, speakers aren't anything I'd buy on recommendation.
The most expensive, supposedly the best aren't often what YOUR ears like.
Get y'self to Halfords or a decent ICE dealer and LISTEN to some.
It's what I did, blind testing, ended up with Sony 3-way ones all round, 165mm fronts and 9" x 6" rears. Sound great.

well the speakers fit and sound good so would recommend them but make sure that you don't do what i did which is order the wrong size for the front hahaha so ive changed the rear speakers and now have to wait till next month to change over the fronts
thing now is do i cut a whole in the door panel to fit the tweeter through or leave it off!
And to answer the question if the tweeters will fit in place of the originals i believe they will. they come with a handy fitting that you can put across a speaker hole (why you would is beyond me) which will attach to the mounts that the original tweeter fits to! ill try to get some pics when i do the fronts!
hope thats handy for ya!

Ok today at work I took a little time it and put the fronts in! Easy as pie really! only thing is that the bar that hold the standard tweeter on needed a bit of fiddling!
Basicly i used a very strong double sided tape to hold the tweeter on for the tome Bing as I didn't had a small enough screw to attach it properly will sort pic's n bits when I get the correct screw

I did my fronts the other week as when I looked one original cone was split so grabbed a set from Halfords until I find some decent ones - ON OFFER - I also bought a set of these while I was there as heard often upgraded speakers are too deep and interfere with the glass dropping SPACERS
The tweeters fitted perfectly where the oem ones were and the woofers were a simple fit - just had to drill one new hole per spacer to fit the spacers to the doors
I was extremely unimpressed with the sound of these speakers - little or no improvement over oem
I had an award winning car audio specialist looking at some stuff on the car for me re freeview tv so while we were there he had a listen to the stereo and gave me some advice - so next day I stripped the woofers off and used some 50mm wide number plate fixing tape I had lying around and used it to seal up any rattles or leaks ,,, on the door then attach the spacers over then on the spacers and attach the speakers - what a difference - I can now turn my stereo up to 3/4 and its crystal clear - I have a sub but even with the sub off the speakers in the front now deliver a fair bit of quality bass ,,, I will still upgrade when I decide which route I go - most likely jl audio but in the meantime at least ive improved the sound quality to an acceptable quality
moral of the story - use dynamat or cheap wide trim tape and if things don't sound great at first take advice or try again

Hi Scoobyskool,
Am looking at buying the exact same speakers, what adaptors did you use?
Knowing what you know now, would you buy the speakers again or try different ones? (as cheapys!)
Thanks

If you click the word " SPACERS" in the previous post i made it takes you straight to them ,, theyre corsa ones and were off the shelf at halfords
Tbh for the speakers i bought im not even sure theyre needed as the speakers from the link posted above arent that deep ,,, wasnt till i got them out the box at home i realised they were not very huge magnets
I just bought in a hurry from halfords as i had the door panels off the car at home ,, there was one other set that were a tenner more in halfords iirc ,,, if youre getting from there i would ask a halfords guy to show you the speakers out the box to have a look at the magnets and do a comparison visually ( obviously you cant see the magnets on display units fitted in cabinets),,, bigger would usually equal nicer bass in my opinion so the ones that were a bit more money could of been better value
Mine does sound quite nice now tbh and im no longer scanning for a set of expensive speakers daily like i was before i did the double sided tape refitting bit ,, previous to that i felt like either just not using the stereo or throwing the speakers out the window as it sounded so terrible
So yes now theyre fitted nicely and no reverb or rattles im pretty happy with them and the tweeters etc fitted the oem bracket so as a fast relatively cheap buy i think theyre pretty good value ,,, i will probably stick a set of smaller matching ones in the rear doors sometime soon as well
Im sure if not in such a hurry as i was the same speakers might be cheaper on ebay or something better might be sourced from a car audio shop but as a handy fast solution id defo say go for it
This is the 50mm wide double sided tape i used to eliminate reverb and rattles ,, i had bought it in error recently not realising how wide it was but it came in very handy and cheap too

I just put the tape around the aperture as described above and didnt peel the top layer of plastic off
Also worth a mention - the oem wiring at the standard bass speaker is a bit confusing as there are four wires to the plug as subaru ran the tweeter wire off that point ,,, in order to ensure i didnt get the new components out of phase i found it much easier to run my wires to the crossovers for the new speakers from the oem tweeter plug as theres only two wires there so pretty foolproof
