Brightest (and whitest) 55W halogen bulb in the market?
Hi there,
Disregarding all the wonderful marketing slogans such as "110% more light, Xenon gas filled, 50% longer beam etc." what actually IS the best and brightest 55W halogen out there at the moment?
Curious to hear your personal experiences or even bulbs compared, thanks!
PIAA
Osram
Phillips
Ring

Difficult question, since SO much relies on the optical accuracy of the bulb: A poorly made (badly optically aligned) 100W bulb may LOOK brighter than it's 55W cousin, but won't perform anywhere near as well in the light unit.
This is because the positioning of the glowing halogen filament has to be accurate to 0.5mm or less for the bulb/light unit to work correctly.
(This, in turn, is the MAIN reason why HIDs don't work well in lights made for halogen.....the light produced is a different SHAPE to that produced by a halogen filament.)
So.....what's best?
There will be little to choose between big manufacturers.
Philips Extreme, Halfords (made by GE) Ultra Brilliance, Hella uprated, Osram Nightbreakers and Ring 120% uprated.
All will do what you want.
I'd avoid PIAA........they are no better than the ones listed above, but ARE considerably more expensive.
And DO avoid cheap copies and higher wattage bulbs.
