Default gauge lights too bright

hi guys. Fitted some gauges to my classic . Oil pressure oil temp and boost . They are, however, very bright blue in colour . They are not defi or any other expensive make but i was wondering if it was poss to dim them . Is it just a case of installing resistors to the wiring or what ?

Yes, so long as they aren't LED lit, then it might still be possible but becomes harder.

If it were me, I'd insert a small variable resistor into the feed to ALL the gauges.

Adjust until you are satisfied, then hide it, or remove, read resistance with a multimeter and substitute a fixed resistor of the same value.

Try a 470R or 1K. Cheap enough.

Sorry , to clarify. One pot to each gauge or will one work between the three gauges?

I'd put it on the feed to all three. One pot, three gauges.
Connect between the centre connection and one end. SOLDER all connections and heatshrink.

DON'T buy one of the smaller pots on ebay, it has to be able to dissipate the energy it absorbs...as heat.

Let us know how you get on.

Some LEDs can't be dimmed, they are either on, or off.

Keep your eye on it....it might get hot after a while. If it does, read the resistance and buy a higher wattage resisitor of the same value, solder that in instead.
