Default anything I need to know before converting my uk sti bugeye projectors to HID

I have searched but thought there may be some more recent info on kits etc to use/avoid. I will be fitting a washer kit to pass mot etc over here so that is covered. I take it a decent set of H1s will do the job well and have many fellow bug owners done this?

On projectors with washers/levellers we're fine over here in NI.

Alright for some!

Unless you have. Self levelling, the sensors, washers etc you can't over here!

I wish the pigs would crack down on dick ends with hids in standard lights, drives me up the wall,

Yea, regular glass headlamps with hids are a pain in the ****. I had standard bug fried eggs but went for projectors so I could get the extra light output legally, probably go for 4300k or 5000k but was wondering if there were any specific kits known to work well, longevity etc.

Errrrm, this info isn't quite right.

I spent an age trawling the internet when the MoT changed, and what I found, which is backed up by three separate MoT testers, was that if HID is fitted, "Any levelling and washing devices which are fitted must work".

If none are fitted, there is NO requirement to fit any.

And yes, I agree, DO NOT go over 5000 K.

I know that the main diff between GB and NI regs is the words "may" and in NI, "must" when it comes to washers.

Do the research, as I did.

If you can find any official site that says that leveling and/or washing MUST be fitted, post it on here. I tried and found the above.
There are plenty of uninformed sites, and posts such as yours that say it, true, but NO OFFICIAL SITE I COULD FIND. And believe me, I tried.

"IF fitted, MUST be in working order". That's it.

They were also going to have a part that said that the bulb and light unit must have matching E-numbers, but didn't go that far either. THAT would have effectively put a stop to the use of aftermarket HID bulbs in halogen reflectors.

You obviously didn't research very hard the DFT views are very clear.

Yes, I saw that, but it's ADVICE and isn't law.

The LAW is clear...read it on the MoT site.

Itlists all the relevant laws to which it has taken account of to which it has come to the conclusion of which HIDs are illegal.

This is guidance on how to comply with the relevant laws, so although the document its self isn't law, it tells you what you need to do to comply.

Disagree. Go to the actual MoT site, read the testers' regs. No mention.

Mentions testing IF FITTED. No mention it has to be.

IF is the definitive word.

no washers or wipers on JDM headlights and they come with HIDs . . . never had an issue at MOT time or ever been pulled.

Jdms have different regulations to uk cars..... There is a lot that doesn't apply to a jdm...

An mot doesn't prove compliance with the law alcazar, the laws that you have to conmply with are listed in the document. Mot is a test of roadworthiness based on the evidence present at the time, not legal compliance. I bet an MOT tester doesn't know half the laws stated within that document!

Possibly...but it's the rule that allows you on the road, or not.

I still say that they ARE legal without washers/levelling. And that link was ADVICE, not law.

Not if you do a full retrofit, I.e. Using a factory kit.

....Anyway, had them delivered and were completely straight forward to fit. I can actually see where I am going now and beam pattern seems perfect. Washer system next.

Was out for a quick shop there as it was getting dark. As you can see the cut off lines are pretty decent. I was parked up a little close to the wall but you get the idea. Def need to de swirl the headlights though as he scratches show up more when looking at the lenses.

Bit late, but I have had HID after market kits in my Morrette headlamp Bugeye for 4 MOT's, all i get is a note in the recommendations, never had to change them.
They also have a great beam pattern.

The morettes were quite a few quid more to be honest so when I came across a set of uk sti units for £150 it was too good to turn down, the light output standard was even worse than the standard lenses (even with a set of rally 100w bulbs) ffs!!
Took another pic tonight to show the brightness, obviously I am parked on a fairly steep slope but used it to show the cut offs and actual light output from these, 55w 5000k rather than the usual choice of 6000k which are a little blue to me.
