On a WRX MY03, is there any way to get rid of the orange bits inside the headlights?

Thanks

Steve

You can do it by sticking the whole unit in the oven to warm it up (I kid you not) and then prising the two halves apart.

I think (big disclaimer) that the optimum temp is around 55degC. Too hot and you will melt them (have seen the results of this and its very funny... if its not your car), too cool and the locking tabs will break off as you try and separate the two halves.

Cool (or not as the case may be), but sorry, there's a bit missing from your reply. Once I've got it apart ..... then what? Is there a replacement part I can buy or do I just bin the orange bit and stuff what's left back in the front of the car?

Oh, and sorry about the two user names but I registered one from work which didn't seem to work so registered again (and had to do it with another name) from home. I actually want to use a third and delete these two but so far had zero response to all my emails to the scoobynet account dept.

Cheers
Steve.

As Pete says, stick them in the oven! Mail my profile if you want further instructions!

Also, phone Pete Scoobysport for some silver vision type indicator bulbs. They look silver but light orange!

Thanks, that looks so much better. My better half actually has the bug-eye wagon WRX (I'm just about to take delivery of an 03 WRX), so I'll give it a go on hers as well :-)

Hope it goes OK, or I could end up living in my car .....

Cheers

AFAIK after you get the lamp apart you remove the orange lens and warm it all to stick it back together.
You will need to replace the bulb with a silvertec one (looks silver but flashes orange)

As for the user name problem just register the name you want to use and remember your password for posting on your other machine or use the Log in page: http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/login.asp

No need for anyone to ever buy silver bulbs.Very expensive in my opinion!!!!!

DO WHAT I DID

Spray the orange bulbs silver.
I used a regular silver paint (holts) and sprayed mine.
Only do 1 coat (hold bulb at distance(2 foot),spray, and twist bulb.
Results----Excellent

Sprayed about 10 bulbs for about £5
LOads of spares

Red face

Except that the bulbs in the front are clear (not amber) and a stupid fitment.

There is no-one in this country selling the right fitment in SilverTec (or similar) - You'll have a job finding the right fitment in amber even (although that's what's used at the rear!).

Could do 2 layers of paint (amber then silver) on the existing bulbs I suppose - I've resorted to importing SilverTec style from the US!

thought I'd add a link to the bulb search thread - as you can see I've been waiting a fortnight (getting a little nervous)...

I will post pics of how to take the whole lot apart when I get the bulbs.

(And I wanted to tick the email notification box )

Thanks, hmmm, I know they (MY03) have only been out for a few months but I'd have thought the anti-tango brigage would have this one sorted by now ....

I'm really looking forward to getting rid of the tango.

50 odd miles so far, just a few more to go to run it in :-)

Wink

If it's MY03, then make sure it's a JDM car. It's already done for you.

If he can that'd be great - US manufacturer is apparently now on backorder (with a 6-8 week wait )...

Just trying some other US suppliers...

You doing this Hickstead thing Dyney? If so I'll try to see you there (convoy with Surrey lot or otherwise...).

04 Impreza - is what the rest of the world calls an 03

I'm looking to take the orange wedges out of mine as soon as I get hold of some suitable bulbs (only clear bulbs seem to be available in this country...) - I've got a set coming from the US, but the manufacturer is on back-order (must be popular).

IIRC US 04s have an extra reflector round the sides. Whilst I'm not sure how these are held in, the likelyhood is that they're clipped in much the same way as in the 02s
