Can anyone confirm their opinions after fitting of the H4 HID hy.low kit which I am about to order from autolamps?

They will still honour the group buy price of £380 (roughly) delivered, and throw in some whiter side light bulbs too.

I am going for the 4100k versions for superior light rather than stupid blue colour.

Has anyone got any direct feedback from these who can confirm that they really are worth the money over say phillips hibrite normal Xenon H4s?

I'm in USA at the moment and have been looking at these.

Looks like I can get a set for about $400, so at the current exchange rates, that will be about £220........think I'll have to get some while I'm here!!!!!

who makes that kit?

exchange rate is amazing but having spoken with autolamps I am fairly cnfident in the service so will be sticking with them.

If you can provide me with a link to the US site, I may be tempted to get another set for my golf.

I am not sure if I'm on the right thread but have a WRX (Dec 01) Bugeye version but with Twin Morettes. Can you "shed some light" on the following: -

I am very interested in getting HID lights to work preferably on low beam. Is this what were talking about here and can someone provide a link to autolamps if they are the best people and i'll get some before I crash into something in the dark.

Specifically what spec should I go for?

Thanks in anticipation for anyones help

The Hi-Low kit discussed on here is for H4 bulbs, (main and dip) which your '01 doesn't have, so your kit may even be cheaper.

The website at Autolamps is

http://www.autolamps-online.com/index.htm,
But I still haven't bothered to learn how to make it clicky:

Cut and paste it.

BTW: your manual will tell you exactly what sort of bulbs are in your car, as you only want the dips, you could also try a search on here.

Thanks very much. I have spoken to a gent at Autolamps this afternoon and he tells me that he doesn't supply upgrades to HID as the upgrade path is illegal. (something about off road use)

He says that I should go to the NEC on Sunday and get talking to some of the exhibitors there about it. He says all the hid companys are there.

In passing I would say I am surprised that the basic factory light set up on Subarus passes safety regulations if there are any.

Thanks for your help

Question

Who did you speak to?

They did a deal for Scoobynetters not long ago, with good prices, specifically for HID upgrades.

I rang this number
Telephone: +44 (0)1789 765996
spoke to two different ladies who eventually put me through to a man whose name I do not recall. But he seemed very authoritative.

He actually recommended
Carnoisseur?
Demon tweakers or something
Any ideas?

err - WTF ?

First, I'm sure he said 'demon tweeks' (a performance shop in Wrexham)

Second (and more importantly), I took delivery of a HID H4 upgrade kit FROM auto-lamps TODAY !

I'm not sure who you spoke to, but thats Very odd....

They do a kit for H1 and H7s (I'm sure the new impreza uses one of these - check the manual)...

I'd just order (in fact, I did) from hid-online.com, which is the HID upgrade arm of autolamps...

I can categorically assure you that this is what I was told TODAY!

However theres no point going on - I'll just have to try the ordering process via the link you have supplied.

I think I might just go to the NEC anyway to try and plug the gaps in my knowledge. (will need a massive plug)

Thanks very much for your help

Minidog, no offence intended - I'm sure thats what they told you - I'm really questioning their answer, rather than your reporting....

I'm fairly sure that demon-tweeks do a conversion kit, but I've noticed that its some way from you, so probably better ordering on-line, as you've suggested. My kit arrived within a week of ordering, though I've had to pick it up from the UPS depot, as no-one was in when they tried to deliver ....

I can only assume that they were trying to be 'completely legal' on the phone, as the web site does point out that the kit is only for off road - which is where I'll be using it (obviously )

I'm hoping to fit it tomorrow

Very strange indeed, yes it's illegal because of the no wash/wipe legality, but they have previously supplied us before without any issue.

I'm gonna send Nick at Autolamps this link for him to comment on.

No offence taken! No I am very grateful to you.

Their response is so stupid as it is perfectly obvious that they do supply HID upgrades (exactly what the chap said they don't). Its madness.

What puzzles me is why he didnt give me a way of getting what I wanted without appearing to compromise his official stance. Could it be that difficult?

Friday afternoon syndrome - perhaps?

I'm still not sure what to do (beyond going to the Nec on Saturday!)
Thanks anyway

Hi Minidog

Have a look on ebay.com not ebay.co.uk, the USA version and type in HID if you click on the link at the top that say's Highest priced you will see a big list of people selling HID lighting and several ship worldwide, well worth looking I've found some good prices like a chap thats offered me 2 sets H1's and 9005's with Hella ballasts 8000k bulbs and looms for £430 inc P&P for both sets but I hadn't got my car so I didn't take him up on the offer but I've now got my new STi and I think I'll go for it now, as I can't find prices hear anywhere as good as that...

Stilee
I will look at the Usa ebay site - Thanks

Unfortunatly I am a little out of my depth talking about ballasts, looms, Hellas, 8000K this and H7's and such like.

Like me, my cars a bit dim and needs enlightening! Pardon the pun. I was hoping the guy at autolamps would say; -
"You have a 01 WRX bugeye with Morettes"
You need product "x". It will cost £x. I can fit it on Monday"

Lifes just not very simple.. I do really appreciate everyones help - Its fantastic. I had been thinking of ditching the Subaru and getting a Merc but I don't think Merc run such a friendly bulletin board.

I am away for the day today and probably at the NEC tomorrow - Sunday. I'll be back before it gets dark otherwise I might not get back at all. I think I'll take a torch.

Kindest regards and appreciation

don't think that was the number I had for autolamps on line.

There is a similar company on the web (namewise autolamps.co.uk)who do not show HIDs on their website, and to my knowledge it is only NIck and Janet working in the office and janet is very very helpful.

Yes, just checked it, you went to the wrong company!

anyway, the price we have been quoted through mentioning scoobynet is farf cheaper than £420, in fact for low only beams its works out about £320 using all top quality stup. philips instead of hella. Not that hella is bad at all of course.

Why use 8k bulbs? they just make it too blue, don't give you as much light as you can possibly have which in my opinion is the only reason to spend this amount of money on lights.

For the final time, AutoLamps-Online were the company that at least 25 people used in a group buy about 12 months back.

The kit is as good as standard fit and is OEM to some of the big maunfacturers using branded Philips parts.

Although I have sold my STi, the first mod to my Legacy will be HID's from the above company.

Not connected, but dont want people to buy inferior kits from the far east or US.

AND - auto-lamps online IS where I had my kit from - The HID-ONLINE link I posted is their HID-upgrade site, you can find it from their main site, or go direct.

Hope you get it sorted, and I'll be fitting mine tommorrow, so I'll let you know (Although Mines a classic, so Its H4 main/dips for me)

Look forward to reading an in depth review, m8.

I STILL might stretch to some, but God I LOVE my HID driving lights: pass someone on an empty motorway, say, and put 'em on, and no matter what they have, it's night into day:

So is £380 the "Scoobynet" price for the H4 Hi/Los?
Adam -- what sort of lenses do you have on your 22B -- the clear ones, or the lensed ones? I'm considering getting some HIDs for my TVR, which has the round lensed lights, but I currently have two options:
1) Get the H4 Hi/Los
2) Get the multiple-light "pods" to replace the lights (like the later Cerbs) and get the single-beam HIDs for the dipped beam.

carl,

380 scoobynet h4 hy/low price you got it.

Not sure what you mean.

Will have a guess.

jap 22b has sti 4 non crystal lights

uk 22b has the motorised crystal (clear) lights as it was supplied in sti model year.

Mine though jap has the crystal lenses kindly donated by craig hardman some time back.

Spot on. The Trevor has non-crystal type lights (i.e. the lenses themselves are not just plain glass). I have a suspicion that HIDs won't work well with these -- any ideas?

Alcazar / Markwild

My car has H1/H7 - Morette style front. So I think Ive learned that much..

Could you explain what you mean when people use the term Hi/LO?
Does this mean they work on both hi and lo beam? There are some HID kits that do not?

Could someone give me the e-mail address of nick at autolamps? Or better still a tel number?

Are scoobysport usable (They seem to do a morette HID upgrade?

Sorry for so many questions

Thanks
