i have a boost gauge backlight wired into the switch harness.been wired like this 4 about 8 months.the backlight still works.could this be the problem.

Unlikely to be the boost gauge lighting as a problem.
Your comment about the bulbs intrigues me though.
Forgive me for maybe being stupid, but when you checked the bulbs, did you check that they actually worked by removing them and connecting them across your battery, or did you just look at the filaments?
Also, have you looked at the connectors? Are they corroded?
Do you have a circuit tester? You can make one with a couple of bits of wire and a small 12V bulb, or buy one of the ones with a pointed probe on one end, a bulb in the handle, and a wire with crocodile clip on the other end.
Use it to see if there is any supply TO the switch, and any power getting THROUGH the switch. Then use it to test if there is any supply arriving at the connectors.
If you have power AT, and THROUGH the switch, but none at the connector, suspect the relay, which may be open circuit, or stuck.
No power arriving at switch, I'd contact an electrician........NOT a Scoob dealer, BTW, a PROPER electrician.

The green light not coming on could be either a blown warning light bulb, or a dicky switch.
AFAIK, the switch lighting up doesn't mean that power is getting to it, only that the lighting circuit is working.
I'd still be inclined to have the switch out and get your circuit tester working overtime.
