MY98 Oil temp location
I currently take the oil temp from a sump plug sender but this is failing giving a far too high reading on the gauge. I have a temp sender for No3 cylinder location but there doesn't seem to be any plug to remove to put this into behind the throttle above No3.
I have a MY99 grey import but the engine appears to be from a MY98 and as I can't find any MY98 engine pics I'm not sure.
Can anyone help.

I have a UK MY '98, and my oil temperature sender sits in a tapping above No 3 cylinder.
It's quite hard to see the plug as it's relatively flat with an 8mm hex indentation to take a hex key. It lies on top of cylinder 3 but you have to take the intercooler off to see it properly, and even then I needed a torch to spot it. Once I knew where it was, all was OK, but I ended up buying a VERY long Allen key witha T type handle, (about £8) to remove it.
Don't forget PTFE tape on the sender threads before refitting, and, depending on sender, you MAY need an adaptor. I did for a Defi sender.

I didn't reply earlier because I wasn't sure if the 98 engine had the OE bung above #3 or not. I've pointed it out in the pic.
I bought an 8mm hex 1/2" socket to fit onto my long extension bar to remove it. It can be very tight, so I made certain with a big torque wrench
I've more details and pics on my website.

Blimey that was good timing!...just got my car, but the pod-mounted oil temp gauge is intermittent at best, so was wondering where the sender would be...and hey-presto, your site with a whole heap of useful-stuff!...Cheers for that Stefan, I'll check out to see if mines on top of #3 tomorrow as well.
