Ring driving lamps, any good???
Looking into fitting a driving lamp kit...and have looked a PIAA ones at 250 quid etc but found Ring do a kit with 100w bulbs with brackets and all the kit very cheap!!
Anyone got them??? What are they like, surely they will give a decent increase in light over just the standard lights. I have PIAA bulbs in them but still not that bright in these dark winter months
Any feeback welcome dudes!!!
cheers

ANY driving lamps will be better than the OE Scoob lights I had some tiny Raydyot ones, oval shaped, about 65mm x 45mm, with H3 130W bulbs mounted in the grille space beside the number plate, and they were pretty good, but a stone took one out
The big problem with aftermarket lighting is how to mount it. If you can crack that, and the Ring lights will fit in the foglight spaces, you should be OK.

Compete kit for a Scoob? OK, but even now there are kits out there I personally would advise against.
Take the following into account when deciding:
1. Cost (obvious)
2. Mounting...is it secure, will it vibrate?
3. Mounting...how easy is it going to be to align accurately?
4. Bulb changing....can it be done without disturbing mounting/alignment?
5. Bulbs...what type? Are uprated bulbs available/usable?
6. Covers...if mounted where OE fogs are, clear covers are a must.
7. Replacement...should you have one broken, would a new lens be available, or would it mean a new lamp? Or even a new KIT?

All good points there alcazar....sum points I hadn't thought about.......
Cost...well they are under 100 quid so super cheap. They come with 100w bulbs and 55w bulbs.
As for fitment and alignment, I have no idea......might have to have a look closer into this. especially the strength of the mtg brackets as, as you say, if they vibrate thats not gonna be good!!!
I zhink they come with covers, if not I am sure I could buy sum to put over them when not in use.
Cheers

Not bad I suppose if a new lens is sub £50 or so, but are they available?
My little Raydyots eventually had to go as I couldn't source a new lens/reflector unit in the UK, the nearest was Sweden!
And I'd be a bit circumspect: have the kit out of it's box, and have a look at the mounting and bracket. If it's a single point mounting, I'd avoid it unless you can see how to do a steady bar like rally cars had before pods.

I fitted some Ring Rally giants a while back, they're a huge improvement over the Cibie driving lights i had.
The Cibie's totally corroded around the bottom and were beyond repair, although the brackets were very useful for mounting the Rings.
The only problem I found was that due to the location of the lense holder clips the lights had to be mounted at 45 degrees, or large sections of the bumper would have to be removed, I mounted them at 45 degrees.
I haven't got any protective covers on them (the lights are too tight a fit in the holes to use them), but at 25 quid a pair it's not such a hardship having to buy a new pair.

If you imagine a clock there are lines on the glass which should go vertically from 12 to 6, but due to the retaining clip the lines on mine go from 1 to 7 (roughly ) doesn't seem to affect the way they chuck out the light though.

I had RING driving lamps for a year now, completely shagged.
The lenses are corroded, the quality is very poor (housing came of ...)
Now upgraded to Hella 1000FF, see my other post...
