Question Removing Wiper stalk & using switches ....????

So here Goes......

I'm replacing the windscreen wiper stalk with either a dial/*** or some switches .......the reason being i'm completely re-doing my dash and i have nothing on the steering colum other than a pair of indicators, the lights are now on switches to go onto the collection of dials and switches (ala WRC) on the dash.

anyway i'm currently stumped - i know it's late and my brain is probably fried by now but if i get it down on here it may make more sense to me when i explain.....

windscreen wipers - 8 wires.

Red, Green, White & Black = Screen wash with x1 wipe.

Black = 12v perm
Red& Green switch for wash & x1 wipe
White = Earth ??

--------------------------------------------------------

Blue/White
Blue
Yellow
Blue/Yellow

When connected together

Blue/Yellow & Blue = Low windscreen wipe

Blue/White & Blue/Yellow = High Windscreen wipe

-------------------------------------------------------

Now the complicated bit....

They all fed into a small curcuit board that is covered in resistors etc. If you ignore the board and short them as above they work fine, however i presume the board is in place to control the intermitant wipe.

with

Blue/Yellow & Blue = output from PCB to Yellow in intermittant bursts.

My problem is........

how can i switch the power on to the board to activate the intermittant wipe ???????

I have tried leaving the wiper board switch in intermittant position and then simply breaking the Blue/Yellow wire with a switch but it must get a feed back of juice from the resistors etc on the board as it intermittant wipes but with a small half wipe too (discharge of excessive juice i guess??)

It could be set with the switch breaking the intermittant Yellow wire but woudlnt this be dangerous with the power permanantly to the board full of resistors etc ???

Is there a solution to this does anyone have an electrical brain/knowledge ???

Thanks
Chris

Sounds as if the intermittent is placed in circuit before the wipers, ie:

Power> (switch) > Wipers,

or

Power> (switch) > intermittent > wipers.

It could be, therefore, that the intermittent is placed in circuit, or not, by a two way switch. The single pole is the power input, one way leads STRAIGHT to wipers, the other way leads to wipers via the intemittent module.

You might find it easier to do if you could source a decent circuit diagram, one that shows what connections are made to what else when the switch is in each position.

I think that too that it has two routes for the power, one straight to the wipers and the other Via the intermittant resistor.

I have just got to figure out how to get power to the intermittant option before the circuit board

Find which colour is power in, (using a circuit tester, look for live).

Remove it, and feed it via a two-way on-off-on switch.

Black is perm 12v along with Blue/Yellow .

Blue/yellow controlls the wipers power supply.

hhmmmm

After wiring it up i realised that when i kill the switch it also kills the power off there and then ! so the wipers wouldnt return to thier start position and i'm sure that they have to for the MOT dont they

so i have re-sasses the situation and i think i need to make some switches off form the circuit board after the capacitors & resistors etc so that the intermittant works but more importantly the wipers will return to down rather than having to guess when they are near

This is the positions of the switch in order to make the wipers function....

Wipers Off = 1. and 3. & 4. (connected)

Intermittant = 1. & 2. (connected) and 4. & 5. (connected)

Medium = 2. and 5. & 6. (connected)

Fast = 2. and 6. & 7. (connected)

Any solutions greatly appreciated, apart for being to to leave it well alone

Thanks
