Default Bright bulbs

What are the chances (and consequences) of getting pulled for high K bright bulbs that are not E marked and therefore illegal?

I fancy some LED sides and something like piaa Xtreme Force mains/dipped.
If they appear to be like HIDs wouldn't people just assume they're HIDs?

Non E-marked bulbs would fail a MOT, If the tester bothered to look. The risk comes form having an older car that looks like it shouldn't have HID bulbs then you may get a tug, the other thing worth noting is if you run high wattage bulbs above which the wiring was desiged you could end up with a expensive bonfire!!!!

Lots of these higher wattage bulbs about now, but on test, MOST of them put LESS light where you'd want it, due to poor manufacturing tolerances.

In the end, it depends what you want the bulbs to do. If you want to SEE better, get some GE Megalight 60% uprated, or Philips Vision Plus 50% uprated.
If you want to be seen to have bright bulbs, however ..............

Just check the bulbs in mine, i replaced the std one's with Osram Silverstar, Claim to be 50% brighter and do improve visabilty, they are also E-marked and only cost £14, there are others that give less light output but have the blue effect you are loking for also E-marked, Check out this link

I've changed to the Osram Silverstar too on dip and they are much better than the OEM fit. H1 for dip on MY03.

Thanks for the replies chaps.
I would like led sides cos the look cool

Mains and dipped are for vision purposes.
I've used Philips before but quite fancied the PIAA as above but not if it's going to get me in trouble.
They're not higher wattage, just different intensity and colour of light.

The HID's in group buys are very good, go for the 4000k.

I had GE megalights +60% and have just changed to a set of 6k HID's. When I had fitted one side I tried a comparison and honestly the remaining GE looked like a yellow candle, even in daylight..!

I thought the GE's were good but compared to a good set of HID's they are litrally, excuse the pun, night and day..!

Are we talking H4? If so, what's the main beam like? I've heard it can be worse than halogen main beam........
