Just ripped out all of the old jap sat nav from under the passenger seat and found a rcl fob, changed the battery and it does just about work when you stick it right up against the windscreen, tried cleaning the inside with switch cleaner etc, but the rubber is perished too so I am wondering whether I could get a new one, wheres best to try, and will I just get laughed at if I try a main dealer? the fob is a little black oval one with a flashing red led when the button is pressed, is this the same as a UK one?

Try taking it to a dealer for identification, see if it IS a genuine Scoob one.
However, chances are, if it's not, sourcing another would be impossible. We had the same problem with the eldest's first car, which had an immobiliser on it, but only one very old fob.
It was cheaper to fit a new immobiliser than to source a new fob.
