My old import had 100/80w bulbs as standard with no wiring issues.

I once ran 130/100(??) but decided to use a Relay to keep it all "On power" took about 40 mins and the difference was great !! people would flash me and I would flick on to full beam and they would then die !! had a local MOT guy angle the lights down a bit to stop this. fast b road night driving was very safe with the extra light.

Some JDM models came with 100W bulbs as std but they did have different headlamp wiring that made it possible to do safely. UK spec cars struggle to maintain the full voltage with bigger bulbs but it is possible to get a wiring harness with relays to do the job properly.

for what it takes and costs, relay kits are the best. last thing you want is melted wires etc !

Definitely relay them with power feed direct from the battery through some thick wire. The models with the crystal type headlights (MY99/00?) have plastic reflectors and I'm sure I've heard that these can also melt with high power bulbs.
