Hopefully someone can help. As I understand it these lamps replace the fog lights, using the existing wiring. They also have an adapter which plugs in to the main/dipped circuit to switch the lamps on and off. How does this adapter plug in and how is it triggered?

Depends on waht MY you are fitting 'em to. It's basically a relay which takes a signal from the headlight main-beam, switghing it on, and that, in turn, switches on the feed to the driving lights.
