Default Morette lamps

Does anyone know where to get replacement lamp units for the morette headlamp conversions?

My spotlight lamps are going seriously rusty and look pants!

I've seen the cibe replacements but quite frankly, the cost of them (£80 each) is beyond comprehension. If after 5 years they rust and they cost that much, why bother? You don't see standard lamps rusting after 5 years

SO, anyone got any suggestions? If all else fails, then I'll probably go back to standard lamps

Thanks in advance

You can buy Morrette spares here,
Car Styling

Not sure if you're after Classic or Bugeye. Classic stuff is cheaper than you've quoted . Bugeye more expensive .

Thumbs down

No way are the inners for Morettes the price you quoted. That sounds more like the price for a driving light, and they DO rust.

A search on hetre will produce the web address for the Cibie importers, I seem to remember that the inners were about £37 each.

Moto, thanks for the reply. Your link shows the parts I need are:3 - FULL BEAM OPTIC H2 CIBIE (fits either side)Ref: 8 802 030£68.68

**** me, not far off my original post. If you add T W A T to them it's near on the price I've seen before.

Alcazar, since you are on here much more than I am, could I bribe you in any way to post a link to the cheaper ones?

I have the same problem and now i'm seroiusly considering coverting the spots onto air intakes and replacing the other bulbs with a HID kit to improve things.
has anyone else looked at this approach?

Thanks HHxx, saw this post last night but was bemused by it to say the least. I have no clue what type I actually need. I'll call the people to figure out the price, but I have to say, it looks a little more promising!

P1 FEK, I already have an air intake from the lower bumper to the induction kit I hear what you are saying and think it might be a good idea!

PS. I'm talking about my Terzo, effectivley a MY 98 Uk turbo... looks like this

Try here: CIBIE LIGHTING

Ten months ago they were £46 each. Edited to say: TSM ones, about half way down, H", 5" lamp for Morettes. £46.03 each inc VAT.

I've seen others with the idea of air intakes and HID outers, but am unsure, since the HID's would be the H4 variant, which are not as good as others.

The H4 variant is a bit of a dog's dinner, it tries to do both main, and dip beams with an arc in the same position, whereas a true H4 has TWO filaments in slightly different positions. the HID variant thus does neither job properly, and, although brighter, can be disappointing in that it scatters light, blinds oncoming traffic, and has either a poor dip, poor main beam or both

BTW: mine have been on the car 6 years, and no sign of rust.

Alcazar, speak english boy!

Or at least for my benefit I won't even consider the HID's. Too complex and too expensive! I found that (when they were working and not rusty) the inner main beams were awesome, the outers are pretty average to poor, but coupled with the inners and 100W H2 bulbs are quality.

Heading on to the WRC in wales in a couple of weeks and need to get em sorted one way or another very soon.

Anyone got any decent lights they wanna sell?

Considered the angel eyes with projector beams, anyone got these or have any thoughts?

Looks a neat job, but sadly, it's illegal.

The inners count as headlights, as do ALL driving, (as against "fog" lights) and MUST be mounted and usable in pairs

My outers are pretty good, with GE Megalight 60% uprated H4 bulbs in.
I'd NOT recommend uprated bulbs in the inners. The way tyhe H2 bulb is held in suffers from the heat generated, the springs lose their "temper" (springiness), and go weak, contact becomes poor and the bulb fails.

Angel Eyes? No thanks. Not e-marked, so not legal to use, Inners and outers independant of each other, (inners on on their own on main beam), Ditto outers for dip. Poor beam pattern from what I've heard, some have melted the car's loom

Have a look here: https://www.scoobynet.com/lighting-o...-lamp-kit.html

Post 26, for how my setup performs.

I've no doubt it did.......there are hundreds of cars out there with dodgy lights, and an MoT certificate.

However, that won't help you if you come across a stroppy knowledgeable traffic officer..........and believe me, they DO exist

Alcazar,

Your lights on the other thread look awesome!

Do you know if it's an easy job to change the inners on the Morettes? Still undecided on what to do since I can't face shelling out silly amounts of money for something I believe should cost a tenner each.

Cheers

As we're on this subject of corroding morrettes, mine have done the same. I am only using the outer H4 lamps and have blanked off/air intaked the inner spots, so could someone with 'the knowledge' point me in the direction of which lamps I need to replace the outers??

thanks in advance

Look at post 9 on this thread. Follow the link, then scroll down halfway until you come to the lamp, 5", marked H2, morettes etc.

Code is TSM?

Sorry, yes, they are the inners. The ones you want are the H130 5 3/4" main/dip without sidelights, H4's, they are the second ones down in the second section as you scroll down, and are listed at £20.22 each.

Does anyone know if the Morette heads for the bugeye have the electrical adjustment or do you have to mess around setting them up manually?
