Default MOT fail on sidelights

All,

I've just been for an MOT and been failed due to the sidelights not staying on with the ignition off.

The MOT tester advised that it would be simple enough to connect a permanent live to the sidelights.

Any advice on the best place to run it from and conect to?

The car is a V3 STI.

Cheers

Steve

Errrrrrrrm, did you try the switch on top of the steering column?
That puts them on with ignition off and keys out

Now feeling slightly blonde and embaressed!

In my defence, my boost gauge is bolted directly above it, so feeling slightly less stupid, but still, stupid non the less!

Thanks ver much!

LOL, no worries mate.

You'd be surprised at how many posts there have been on here asking, "Help, my sidelights won't go off".

The other fave is "My boot remote release has stopped working". (There's a lever beside the catch in the boot

Oh I don't believe it.....you're not the only one who hadn't noticed the switch because it was hidden by the boost gauge....I only found it today after reading the thread...and I always wondered why the sidelights wouldn't come on without the ignition on....whats that about trying to learn something new every day.

I remember getting a call when having my alfa 156 MOTed because the tester couldn't work out how to open the back doors...

There is an appeals process for a car which has been failed that should have passed.

You may want to google it and print out the procedure - its so rare a MOT tester has to do this he's probably forgotten the correct procedure

Restest fees all depend on the tester's hourly wage and how much they can make on other services to justify the loss in labour costs by doing the retest

Normally it gets whacked on parts prices and consuamble charges.

Everyone's gotta make a living
