Hi,
Just bought myself an Impreza V plate UK 2000 turbo, love driving it!![Luvlove](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/luvlove.gif)
Only thing I have noticed so far that it playing up is this 'Check Engine' warning light seems to just come on and off randomly . . . sometimes when I start up, sometimes when im driving along, sometimes I can go a whole 2 hours journey and it may not come on at all . . . anyone had this problem at all?
I apologise if this is a really silly question, but this is my first Subaru (had a Escort RS2000 then a Toyota Celica GT-Four), so I am very much a newbie when it comes to Subaru's![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)

The check engine light could be for so many things, that it would be too long winded to give you an exact diagnosis.
You can however, to a fault code test on the ECU yourself.
Details here:
Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / Reading ECU Fault Codes
Look for manually reading fault codes, for classics.

Thanks for the assistance joey!
Just did the diagnostic and it brought up Code 22 - Knock sensor. My Engine Light is not on all the time though, it comes on every now and then . . . there seems to be no pattern with it. Do I just replace the Knock Sensor? or if the light is only coming on sometimes does this m,ean it just needs a clean or something?

If it is bringing up your knock sensor code it will mean it has to be replaced i just had same problem took mine off and found the casing was cracked,if you don't mind getting your hands dirty fairly straight forward job to do.
Only hard bit was re locating securing bolt sensor will set you back about £70-80.
