i taped my digital camera to my sunvisor and made a few vids while i was in scotland, had them on facefook, but heard of a few people getting banned for putting theirs online so i decided it was wise to remove them incase the fuzz saw them.

What kinda impreza do you have?

On my track car (93 classic) i have removed the rear parcel shelf type thing, and there is a bolt right in the center, which allowed me to fit a ball and socket camera mount

I then use a Sony Handycam (DCT-TRV33e) to record the track time, using a car inverter to power the camera for long periods of time....

This is the kinda footage i get:

I do alot of skiing/mtb and the V.I.O pov helmet cam is one of the best, expensive yes but really good. I beleive they do a motorsports mounting set for it but I'm just after buying a Gopro Motorsports camera for my trackdays. Most of the time attack cars have these, they are totally enclosed in a waterproof case so can be mounted inside or outside!!

Check them out

It's the number of TV lines (resolution). The footage I recorded was with a 580 tvl camera. When you view it on a 42" plasma it is dvd quality, my video editing software and youtube reduce the quality alot.

This is where you may struggle! Not every camcorder has the ability to record a feed into it. After looking into to it for a while, the best one out there seemed to be the Sony DCR-HC96 (if you can still get it). It's tape based which makes it cheaper than some of the alternative out there.

Any more questions, just ask!

Where'd you take the feed for the sound from with that footage? I've got a bullet cam but always struggled to get decent sound from it. It was either too quiet or just wind noise

I tuck the mic behind the sound deadening in the passenger footwell, it picks up a fair ammount of noise. I did try the mic in the engine bay but got nothing but wind noise.

You do need a cam that will allow you to record into it. You shouldn't need an extra cable though, my cam uses the same cable that you use to plug it into the TV. The cam knows if it connected to a camera or TV.

I spent some time looking into this myself and have tried a few solutions.

At the moment I have the pov.1 recorder (£500+) which is pretty much DVD quality. The bullet camera is mounted just under my front number plate. I bought a seperate microphone which has eliminated any wind noise - I've mounted it in the engine bay behind the washer bottle: Lavalier (Tie-Clip / Lapel) Microphones

This is the site I used
Trackdays, Rally, Touring, Motorsports - Onboard Cameras

I bought this because I also do a mixture of other outdoor sports and knew it would come to good use.

I've seen some very good results with camcorders just mounted inside the car. If you think you might find other uses for the camcorder, there are some good deals about.
My friend tried this route first and the camcorder couldn't cope with the vibrations. After trying another expensive system, he eventually moved to the Pov.1 - it's bullet proof.

A race team I know use the ATC5k for £150 - It's battery powers with internal memory card, durable and easy to mount anywhere. If you just want to record your track days then I would recommend one of these.

The video quality on that isnt the best like... if you want a decent system get a dedicated front/rear recorder, usually one solid state recorder to a video overlay device which allows two camera inputs

Or the cheaper option which i go for is two sony handy cams,
