Default Non existant radio reception, 05' sti

My "new" motors radio reception is not working. i took out the head unit (std subaru ) to check the aerial connection, it is all ok, there is a very minor amount of reception on say radio 1 with the aerial connector in place, but none at all when the aerial is disconnected. Any pointers plesae?

cheers Sandy

I have the same problem with my own 05 car. The radio wasn't working when I bought it. It has a JVC KW-AVX800 head unit.
Checked through all the wiring, had the A pillar cover off to check the aerial amp, can't get it to work no matter what I do.

Mine was a completely separate wire from the stereo plug and loom ,, it was just rolled up and stuffed at the back under the stereo

Or failing that just fit a 12v aeriel booster yourself ,, ought to work i guess

the amplifier is in the rear window, when an aftermarket stereo is fitted you need to connect the blue 12v accessory wire from the stereo to the white wire on the cars loom, this provides 12v to the aerial amplifier when the stereo is on an powers the amplifier so the radio works.

Cheers FT, what is the device inside the N/S A pillar then? I thought that was the amp.
I don't remember seeing a white wire in the loom. Need to have another look.

its white on my car.
the amplifier is placed near the water tank for the ic spray.

http://ae64.com/WRX-pinout.htm

see the above link, basically the aftermarket stereo will have a 12v accessory wire that will supply the power to aerial amplifier, depending on stereo you may need to activate the power to the blue wire, its the one used to power amps etc.
