We can't answer this if you are not telling us enough.

MAIN beam: driving out of town, will dazzle others.
DIP beam: for around town and so as NOT to dazzle others.

Please repost using the above accepted terms.

depends on the wiring for the std lights if it use to have something like h4 or something simular then yes, it would mean that on std lights it would of done the same thing. one way to test is to put lights on dip beam slowly pull full beam on as if you just flashin some one but slowly see if u end up with bout lights on then when full back it changed its more than likely that its being told to change from one to the other i done get why cars do this personally i think dip shud stay on to light the road directly in front of you and then the main to light ahead. ive had it before and its annouyin! lol theres ways of wiring it up so it stays on ( give it a live feed from Full beam so when u put full beam on theres still power going to ballast ( which thinks its on dipped and therefor keeps the lights on ) hope that helps mate.

On the STI the dip beam stays on and the main beam is switched on in addition.
The WRX originally used a H4 bulb, this will switch from dip to main, IIRC.

Yours needs a re-wire, IMHO.

P.S. Sorry just "spotted" this !
