Thought id try something different with my headlights...
Ive decided to try something different, i saw a while back on here people retro fitting projector lenses in head lights etc.. well ive managed to purchase some angel eyes from some one on here, and started to strip them apart ripping out the angle lights n the 3 leds goings to smooth it all off and have a projector with full beam n side light all in one unit. so the plan will b to be left with black projector head lights with a newer sort of look to the car heres some pics of progress.. only took minutes to get to were they are lol
As they arrived;
the tools for stripping ( the hair drier is the missus lol )
one stripped
remove the angel eyes wiring and led wiring
from
to
more up loads once ive got a bit more done

they wont work any worse thats definate as ive plugged them in to the car and tested them in the form they are in now n seem ok, ill post results up along with fotos once completed. although i will be using HID dipped beam and mayb Full Beam also. just need to make myself a little wiring harness etc.
and seeing as it will be i a projected lense adn have headlight washers ill be much more discrete with HID on my scooby its also more for cosmetics that uprating my lightin although due to hids my full beam at present is rubbish so looking forward to sorting that

They look a right state at the moment and its not a tidy job but will be ok when finished first attempt at the min so bare with me lol. end product will be good sanding and paint 2moro.
cut the gay leds out using a dremel
fiber glass the new holes lol
got the P38 filler out to fill over the holes and the angel inserted bits.

I have seen those type of lights before and wondered why it says don't use HIDs? Do HIDs give off more heat and could melt the lights or could they draw too much current and catch the wiring on fire?

Right, time to show my ignorance - don't bulbs, whether HID or not just "shine" and the reflector, projector or not direct the light? Therefore it shouldn't matter what type of bulb is fitted the lights will just reflect more light (or brighter light) ?
It should therefore follow that a poor lens design will shine the light in the same way regardless of the type of bulb fitted???

bulbs dont just shine -the lens bowl has a focal point for bulb, if you use a different bulb the bowl wont focus the light, thats why when you see someone whos just stuck hids into standard lights, well you cant see them because of the glare!!

Hmmm that would therefore mean that HIDs are either suitable for all cars or none?? By my way of thinking if a car has, for example H1 bulbs, and the focal point is in the correct place, then a H1 HID "bulb" would either have the focal point in the same place or not - it couldn't vary from car to car or even headlight to headlight??

have to agree with alcazar, hids in standard headlights are crap. yes the may look bright but in reality they are rubbish. can someone post some pics of a hid kit (in standard lights) beam pattern say against a wall, if there is evidence of light scatter this will be concrete proof.

the problem is no one seems to accept constructive criticism any more. someone who is selling the hid kits is hardly liable to say that they are rubbish are they! what is needed in this case is some sort of test or experiment to prove or disprove the claims made by both parties. any one up for trying to sort this out?

The problem is Harvey, its not all about the technicalities or facts - there appears to be hidden agendas here which is more about the people involved rather than the actual facts or the thread topic. I just re-read the deleted posts and I wouldn't put those posts back either. Simply because of the poor tone and attitude it totally detracts from any claimed facts anyone wishes to put forward.
One can easily put their point across in a much less confrontational manner and in their own thread. This thread is about a guy showing off his headlamp project - he's the one doing the work, and ultimately he's one who'll be able to say for sure with photographic proof that it works or not. I will not let this thread become ruined by those who want to use it as their own little soapbox to purport from.
Anything else about "this or that should not be deleted, this person is a liar etc" will be deleted - it is clear from this thread and others in the past that certain people have a personal problem with other individuals on SN, and it will never get resolved because neither side will back down.
I know I'm going to get knocked for all this but let me make this clear: I'm not here to judge who is wrong and who is right; What I'm saying is this is not the place to have such a debate: I suggest whatever issue they have, instead of dragging into threads started by other people, they should settle it between themselves or take it up with Stu. Failing that, do it in fight club.
