Default 04 wrx key not working

ive just got my 1st scoob and one thing thats bugging me is that 1 of the keys is not working, its the all in one 1 button key so its either a flat battery or it needs re-coding

1-how do you split it to change the battery and what battery does it take

2-if it needs coding via the in car keypad how do i do it? i have the 4 digit pin number

really would like 2 working keys (1 for back-up)

cheers-matt

Take the single screw out of the key and the two halves come appart, battery located in the chip part. top of my head CR1620

if you need to recode follow these steps.
arm & disarm the system with the good remaining key
within 10 seconds enter the following into the key pad

*17856*91*2# then press the button of each key once and the alarm should chirp to tell you its recognised the key

so i dont need my 4 digit pin then?

also does this sound right to you.........i open my car with the 1 button on the all-in-one key/fob

get inside car and shut the door but the car wont start until i lock then unlock the car from inside? sounds a bit "too much messing about to start it"

is this correct?

No need for the pin as you have one working fob.

How long are you taking from the point of opening the car and getting in and starting it up ? you have a 30 sec window in which the immobiliser will let you start it if you take longer it times out and you have to do it again.

Trick for you, Key in ignition turn the ignition on just before starting and press the button on the key this will cause the led to blink once and lets the immobiliser start the car

quick question..........why would i need to press both keys when 1 already works and when ive entered the code do i press 1 key then wait for the chirp then do the other key or do i enter the code then press each key straight after each other?

scared of doing this incase i f**k it up

you have approx 30 seconds to replace a battery in any fob before it looses its code so therefore if its flat then the coding is lost & needs coded back in

The reason you do both is it sends and receives a different signal when you recode so if you only coded in the one key that didn't work the one that did work then wouldn't as the codes different.

enter the code as I listed then press each fob separately and you will hear the alarm chirp on each fob then you know its picked up the signal
