Default High output alternator

hi all,

I'm new to the forum. I've got a 2001 UK WRX running 340bhp.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of anywhere in the UK i can get a 200+ amp alternator which produces that power at engine idle rpm's. Putting a fair sized audio install in and need the extra power for it. I can't seem to find anywhere in the UK which sells them. Only place i can find is DC Power based in the USA but i'd rather get one from the UK if i can.

Thanks

thanks i've looked at these already. The ones on the first link aren't as powerful as i need them and I've messaged the london essex guys for the specs of the 215amp they're selling on ebay but no reply yet.
quite a few alts seem to be knocking around but they only produce the current i need at high engine rpm's which is not what i want. need it at engine idle. Really don't want to have to but from usa but beginning to look like only option

You can alter the alternators output characteristics by putting a different pulley on it. A larger pulley will make it spin faster, so produce MORE current at lower engine speeds. Might be worth a look.

Not really. i want something reliable and standard DC voltage so 12-14v. Pulley sizes isn't a bad idea but i'd still need a 200amp+ alt in the first place. I'm gonna contact DC power and see what it'll cost from them. Looked at fitting a second alt too but theres just no room without removing the aircon pump.

200 Amps is hellish. You'll certainly have to beef up all the charging wiring. And maybe even the feed wiring?

charging/grounding wiring will all be done. Planned system should need 2000-2500w of power. 2 alpine 12's plus 2 sets of focal components. i don't want to fill loads of interior/boot space up with batteries rather upgrade the alt to cope. Plus that'll keep the weight down so it doesn't kill performance ;-)

They're type R 12D2's 1000W RMS each and an MRX-M240 amp powering them.

Sounds good bud. Have you got line drivers and all the bells and whistles for the system.

shouldn't need line drivers. i'll be using a pxa h100 sound processor so that'll provide enough output to the amps. in theory ;-)

Yea that should work well. The amps normally like to see around 5 - 6 volts is ideal.

Why not run a second alternator, that runs on its own dedicated wiring to a battery in the boot specifically for the wiring??

Land-Rovers do it for leisure batteries for winching etc etc.
