Default Classic driving lamp upgrade

Hi all..

I've read various old posts regarding fitting driving lamps to impreza's instead of the fog lights..

As both of my fog brackets are broken and i don't really use them i thought i would replace them with driving ones.

Does anyone have any pictures or recommendations on lights to use?

I've seen some threads that say you can use a bracket and fit most lights to it?? if so does anyone have a current link to where you can get these from?

Sme of the mod dealers on here may still sell driving lights.

They came in FOUR types:

Early ones were PIAA 80XT fitted on Subaru's own brackets. they suffered from corrosion of the reflectors

Later ones used Cibie units, again with Subaru brackets. THEY suffered from bulb failure due to using an H2 bulb

Even later came Hella 1000FF units, sold a s a Prodrive kit for around £220, to include brackets and all wiring.

Then there were the two types fitted to the P1.....they use Hella 90mm units, available in halogen or HID.

A decent upgrade to the Hella units is a set of HID's...the lights use an H1 bulb and are tremendous with the HID in, see here: https://www.scoobynet.com/technical-...-lamp-kit.html post 26 (although mine are genuine HID 1000FF units, not converted).

You can still get the Hella 90 mm units in both halogen or HID, but HID are VERY expensive... You would then need the P1 brackets from a Scoob dealer, which are cheap enough, and a set of the fog covers with the 90 mm holes in, breakers, ebay, aftermarket suppliers etc can do those cheaply enough. Those lights are almost as good as the 1000FF, and a bit more discrete.

Scoob dealers MAY still be able to get the Prodrive kit, or check e-bay, they do come up. Someone was selling an HID kit almost unused recently, but wanted over £600.........

Here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...item415e647996 £500 now, but they do include the covers which are worth having and were £20 new.

I was looking at something like the Hella 500FF or 1000FF but mainly its getting them to mount to the bumper.

Don't want to spend as much as some of those kits are going for.. more pushing towards the 1000FF's

IF you can source 1000FF's...which is no longer easy in the UK, you could MAKE some brackets for them, or have some made. The bumper bar isn't strong enough for them to fit direct to, you would have to remove the bumper skin and bolt some stiffening to it at the very least, then mount the lights to it upside down, turning the LENSES/REFLECTORS the right way up.

By the time you have bought the lights, made/had made brackets or fekked about with the bumper, you'll not be far short of a Prodrive kit, if you can find one. And the kit comes with wiring, relay, instructions etc. More expense if you don't use a kit.

However, if you decide to go it your way, I can advise on wiring, what parts to buy etc.

BTW: the 500FF's look a little small in the spaces.

Here you go: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...2F%3B450%3B415

Wrongly labelled as foglights. They are the 1000FF kit.

Thanks,

I've seen similar brackets before without the tab that points out.

Just can't seem to find any in the UK..

Could you not get some made? A decent steel or ally fabricator would knock some up for £20.

Or contact Prodrive direct?

Could you possibly pm me a picture of the brackets and how much you are possibly looking for it all?
