Another 700 bhp scooby
My mates 1 of 5 xtrial classic now running 100 shot of nitrous
interesting thing he said to me when I asked about gearboxes. I said what box in it and he said 5 speed, I said can it take it and he replied I was on 600 bhp on the 6 speed and blew that on the way to the strip come back dropped the 5 speed I and was running a 10 second with nitrous all weekend. said he's blown both 5 and 6 speed bit said not as weak as everyone says

it was running 580 on the GTX30 and I think he's said he run a 10 sec dead before the nitrous . Not being funny hes no reason to pub talk when's he's explain to me about it while sitting in his 900 hp mclaren P1.

not just the bhp though have you seen a 300bhp WRC go , exactly don't say here what 300bhp should go like .
I'll have to get a vid from him it'll be racing this year so I'll find out what days and you can see for yourself.

I only have 333/307 on my 5 speed and no 6 speed STI under 720bhp can best me over 100m. 7 years and still waiting!
There, big ARF's old 709bhp car X444 v mine X57
I pulled off a quicker 0-60ft by 0.102, the 3rd quickest of the day out of 51 cars. (I also managed the quickest reaction time which helps leaving big turbo'd cars)
I think P1Hardy has just pulled a 0-60 ft of 1.8 and 1.9 seconds in his 700bhp+ STI, I did my 1.8 on a cold damp track with muddy budget tyres.
The much maligned 5 speed box is a true beauty, efficient as ****. Tweaks has mentioned a few times on here running big power on a 5 speed, on 2 cars if I remember correctly.
I once read on NASIOC that heat is the biggest killer of the 5 speed, so with good oil and measured changes it should be fine for the strip.
Strange thing is people who have swapped from a 5 to a 6 speed claim the car seemed faster with the 6. I'm pretty sure an STI running circa 13 seconds at the strip could shave 0.4-0.8 off their time with a 5 speed. The box is lighter, more efficient which enables more power to the wheels and has slightly better ratios for taking off.

ok say this isn't 700bhp for arguments sake, it's running a GTX35R @2.2 bar and has a 100 bhp shot of nitrous on it and it has a 5 speed at the moment ,it was 6 until that blew . so are you saying that there isn't a 5 speed in it or its running Less than 420 bhp in that spec? what are you saying?

Standard 5 speed gearbox's are crap, I'm sure tweeks will agree that considering that he's just smashed 2 up. They are not up to competition usage. However a fully built, straight cut dog box, straight drop gears, the full mashings can be a fantastic gearbox, but come at a serious cost

Truthfully I have no idea what they cost to fix. I would like a proper 5 speed in my sprint car. There's a serious 30kg weight saving to start with. Problem is a proper competition dog box is about 5k. And there's still always a chance that it could let go.
For power the 6 speed is a better option tried and tested and cost a lot less than built 5 speeds

I'd hanker the type r boxes are probably best on 54 form.
I would of kept mine in tbh and wait for it to break but I had a strange feeling it would probably last, but I got a good swap deal on a 6mt dccd for it. My old box is going to get turned into straight cut.

In fairness they've been UK boxes that let go, his RA box is good but he just don't like the ratios, too short.
