When I was at TSL Gridlock Mikey came in with this rather interesting tyre!

Now don't get me wrong I like Mikey but somehow I get the feeling he might be pushing those tyres just a little too hard!

It happened a few days ago, I was going around a Looooooong left hand bent joining a motorway (between 270 and 280 degrees i.e most of a circle) The road is that open and wide and long that you are in the corner for a good 30 seconds at 60mph.

As you enter the corner, if you looked over your left shoulder, you could see the end of the slip road and ALL of the road in between. About a third of the way round the corner i saw an M3 and made it my mission to catch it before joining the Motorway. I had about 20 seconds to do so

The scoob pulled all the way round that bend and when i caught the M3 and looked at the speedo, i was going rather quickly and had to loose alot of speed to make sure that i could join the motorway safely

As i filtered onto the motorway, i changed lanes and the car felt like it was a jelly ie fishtailing slightly after any steering input, i changed lanes about 4 times to make sure i wasn't imagining anything and then decided that a puncture rear right was the culprit.

I got to a garage (After running a flat tyre for about 1.5 miles ) couldn't find a nail or anything and pumped it back up again.

It was fine, held pressure, and apart from some mad vibrations at anything over 30 miles per hour, all was well.

I then drove on the tyre for about 30 further miles while i was waiting for TSL to have the new tyre delivered.

At TSL when it went up on the ramps and i saw the bulges, i shat myself Because it was on the inside, i had no idea that they were there and had i have known, i would have done the space saver thing for a few days.

The tyre looks like it had been rubbing because it had been run flat.

As to how it happened i have no idea. I can only assume that the heat and pressure build up during a very long fast bend, under power was too much for this tyre, all that torque and the majority of the scoobs weight on it plus the 3 figure speed i reckon i just had a duff one.

No harm done though, i'm not going to mention the make of tyre because i don't see the point, lets just say everyone has heard of them!!

So now you know. SEEYA AT TRAX PEOPLE

Cool

Subaru tyre? In future, stick to a well known make like Toyo or Bridgestone

Michelle - Subaru tyres? If you mean were they the ones that are fitted as standard, then they would have been Bridgestones (on Mikey's car at least).

I can't actually remember what these tyres were but they weren't Bridgestones.

That's the thing, I didn't notice until it was on the ramps

They are BF Goodrich's. I've used them amongst others for years now on many different vehicles and never had a problem. I think the eggs happened because i drove on the tyre while it was flat for about 1.5 miles and thus buggered the wall up.

I have found them as good as any of the "designer" tyres and only £60 per corner Certainly didn't let me down on the Lakes run or any of the subsequent meets did they Mikee, Michelle etc

They suit me for my style and type of driving and are far more durable than ya Toyo's, goodyears etc.

I think that this could have happened to ANY tyre.

Anyway's no harm done, i'm still here, me car is fine and i'm all excited about TRAX

Don't talk to me about tyres! Need to get one now after the rear n/s one went down on me this morning. Don't know where the nail is - have so far only swapped it over (at the side of the road) Would go out and check it but it's currently p1551ng down. Oh well, looks like I'll be swapping back to my old 16" wheels for the trip to Trax on Sunday

Dont feel bad mate!
Ive had this happen to me (Bridgestone S02) after running on a flat for just a few miles (munched the inner wall) again only noticed it, after i'd re-inflated it, when travelling 50+ miles an hour it caused bad vibrations. When it was up on the ramps i had a bulge on the inner wall like yours. Also has anyone noticed how its ALWAYS the O/S rear tyre that looses pressure more than the others? Or is it just me? Its happend on numerous tyres ive had now.
