22B 013/400 ?

It has always been maintained that the 22B with the serial number 013/400 was never made.
Still, some rumors are that it was sent to USA.
Is that true, and are there any pics available?

I have a copy of Evo mag where they do the race across America and in the article they talk about the legendary number 013, it does not exist - that much is true. This 22B was taken to America under very strict import rules which means it has to be destroyed after 3 years. It was never numbered because Subaru dont do number 13's but this was a 'spare' car in case any got smashed pre delivery etc. as non got smashed this one still unnumbered went to America to show them what they could do. It is unnumered and there is no number 13, which is why this one has picked up the number 13 tag - and yes I do want it, its my lucky number!!!
I may be wrong - but that is what I read in Evo - I thinks it the edition where there talk about the RB5 - I had one so have kept the magazine so can check later if you need

From my memory this car must have about a year to live!! Lets set up a group to save it and import it to here!! I think the car went over late, to make sure that all the others got delivered. The Evo mag spoke about it being new to America when the RB5 was being released - bugger just realised it might be dead when thinking about to when I took delievery of the RB5. I am gonna have to check this out tonight (if I get time)
Shall we all chip in a tenner??

This car is, at least according to USA reporter, the famous 22B number 13. It was featured is some article from USA. According to it the number 13 car was imported to USA to show USA journalists what the Impreza is capable of.
I will try to find the article again.
Hope they haven´t destroyed it...........

yeah i remember the comments in the magazine from the americans...saying the car was tiny comared to theirs etc..
i'm sure it had 3 years to live in the states. If this car has been destroyed i might have to side with the iraqies...well maybe not but how could someone rip this car apart and melt it down to create some sort of silly corvette
starting to weep now
i have a tenner here waiting but i fear it's too late.

This is from the 22B chapter in 'You and Your Impreza' by Chris Rees - "Incidentally, contrary to rumour, 'unlucky number 13 was indeed issued, being used a demonstrator for Subaru USA"

There's certainly 419, 3 x 000 + 400 x japan + 16 x uk, I think 2 others went to australia and there may be 2 more making 423 in total. Although there is less than that now as some have been crashed and written off. Rarer than Ferrari F40's (about 1000)

I think the original batch were 426 cars. Only 400 were badge as 22B STi, hence the serial number xxx/400.
16 were shiped to Prodrive UK and modifyed and rebadge as 22B STi Type UK.
3 were badged with the serial number 000/400 and were sold to David Lapworth, Colin McRae and Nicky Grist for a modest fee
Nicky was trying to sell his car, earlyer this year.
5 were imported to Australia and registered as demonstrators/competions cars.
Thats 424 cars. The remaining 2 have been linked with the Sultan of Brunei. Don´t know if that´s acctually true........

The Subaru of America car is Not #13..
It is simply another of the eight cars that were made for the international distributors.. 5 of which ended up here in Aussie.. These cars being neither part of the original 400 or the 16 Type Uk cars.. have no plaques.. ( Which accounts for all the 424 22b's that were made.. 400 + 16 + 8 )
Somehow not having a numbered plaque has become equated in 22B mythology to being the fabled #13 car..
Of course like all fables it never exists
One of them *cough* obviously was the 13th car built DOH!!!! Just never badged that way..
