The lip spoiler is a subaru dealers item !!it is a very good fit it attaches itself in place an then all you need is a set of bolts takes about 10 min apparently. i got mine done at the dealer as i wanted it colour coded
wrexy
thank you very much
topcat
i think the number plate has to be vertical to be legal ( no sure about this as the one on the bonnet is not vertical either :confused : ), also a lot of people have done that or the bonnet i just wanted to be different

The re-location is a good idea, and it looks great. (as does the rest of your car )
I've considered doing this, just to let more air get at the radiator. I was surprised to see the amount of space wasted by that black carbuncle of plastic for the plate mount.

I think the new reg plate format does not have to be applied retrospectively, so if you can prove the plates were made before 1 September they are not illegal (provided they conform to the previous regulations). If you lose or damage a plate, the replacement must conform to the new regulations.
IIRC the new font has been introduced because SPECs was having problems reading the old font. So look after your plates if you have the old font!

Sam,
Your car looks great, but how did you attach it to your bumper? Did you drill holes into your bumper??
The front of my car looks similar to yours, and like Moe I have a sticker number plate on the spoiler.
I guess your plate isn't 100% legal, as you don't have the 11mm spacing between the characters and the edge of the plate (this is not meant to be a dig), and mine isn't 100% legal as it's not vertical (but does have legal spacing and correctly sized characters)
I'm considering either an Alfa 156 or Evo 6 sytlee number plate locations!
Cheers
Andy

think of all the mods that i can do for the price of your plate mate
andy
the numbers are standard size but i have cut the extra from the sides and the top so it is not 100% legal, puting a legal one on though is very easy so i will see how it goes. near where i live i know a WRX with the plate stuck at the bottm of the lip spoiler and he got stopped once in two years. so i really don't know if i will get away with it or not yet. i think it definitely looks almost standard fit.
the number plate is fixed by a bracket from the underside of teh bumper so there is a space between the bumper and the plate.
again if i decide to change it, removing the bracket will not leave any visible holes on the bumper.
an EVO style number plate will be ideal but it will take someone a lot of effort and time to get one made that looks standard fit.

Looks fine to me. It seems to be the case that you only have to worry about the legality (seeing as it's pretty much okay) if you have a Nova on 18"s and spots, if you get my drift.

You are right regards specs standardising the font to allow number plate recognition, but the change in font also allows those plates of 7 digit length to have a GB euro symbol displayed on the LHS of the registration whereas with the old style font, only those having a 7 digit registration could have a GB euro symbol providing there was at least one "1" in the registartion make-up. Of course those people having 6 or less digits in their number plate could have the GB euro symbol displayed on their plate with no problem.
As can be seen with Sams car, he still doesn't comply with the previous legislation regarding spacing....
cheers

Regarding number plate legality? Has no one ever noticed the size of plates most motorbikes use? Some you can't read standing behind a stationary one. Seriously though, as long as your not running dodgy italics or tiny fonts, and your rear plates legal you shouldn't have any problems, unless your up to no good! Anyway have you seen the size of front plates the Subaru WRT use, and they have to be road legal, to go between each stage, there tiny!!!!!!

Kunz
i know first i tried to go for a motor bike letters they were tiny
only time will tell, if i get stopped for it i think i will just put a standard one in i don't think it will make much difference for performance anyway

Good point Kunz regards motorbikes and the WRC cars.
It doesn't make sense to me how they are legal with the directives given but since I was pulled some time ago for a plate which the law enforcers deemed to be illegal, i tend to stick by the rules available to me.
FWIW my plate had the correct size and spacing of digits though not correct font and also the plate wasn't stamped with IIRC the BSAU144A british standard.
However a lot of accessory shops selling plates don't have this stamp on them either so I put it down to the copper being shirty........
Cheers

Suspension all sorted out out now with different springs.
Car sits more level than it did before with the Eibachs.
Rides well without being hard on the road too.

here is my number plate mod and instructions if any body wants to try it. It certainly increases the airflow to the radiator.
front plate before the mod
front plate after
and the bracket instructions. i used 2mm aluminium sheet.
