A N other cleaned engine :-)

With a few people posting up with the use of £7.99 halfords kits I thought Id have a go.
Was fairly carefull not to go too near the obvious areas, though actually I reckon I could have just gone pretty much everywhere.
Pleased with the result even so

Looking good ADP
Ive done mine again today, as I have been told that what I had used (Engine NV) leaves horrible residue and can attack the hoses, so I went out and bought the Autoglym one, and removed all the cr*p from yesterday
Here is a before pic (strut brace isnt attached just resting ) this was taken about two weeks ago
And now taken about 5 mins ago
Apologies for the large pics, but they look naff made smaller

I bought the little brush set, and used the small nylon brush to reach the awkward bits
I also managed to pick up a pressure washer for 30 quid from Halfords, reduced , I used this to wash off all the Autoglym engine cleaner, with the engine running
then once that was done, I then (as recommmended) sprayed the Vinyl & Rubber Autoglym over all the hoses &plastic bits, and give a quick wipe
Im really impressed with the results, for half an hour to an hours work, and for under a tenner too

Looking good!
Wouldn't mind giving my Type R engine bay the once over!
So you get these kits or whatever they are from helfords then, is there any particular one to get?
Do you have to run the car to get it hot before you put any thing on the engine? Do you cover the alternator or anything???

Well there wasnt any choice, its a kit with 2 aerosol cans in it, £7.99, called something like CD2.
Basically, warm the engine up for 15 mins, I drove to Halfords and back and then let it cool down a bit.
Then you spray the degreasing stuff all over, however I covered the alternator with a newspaper, you can see from my pics that its still dirtyish.
Leave the stuff to soak on for 15 mins then rinse off with a hose -
I used mine on a fairly gentle spray, using a tooth brush to get the muck off the stubborn bits, once again covering the alternator with a newspaper.
At the end of the day, the engine must be designed to take a soaking, otherwise the car would be totally unreliable and would die in the winter all the time.
I think its just a case of using your common sense when and where not to blast the stuff, though I was initially apprehensive.
I then dried off the easy bits to do with a towel and then ran the engine for something like 20 mins(it will generate some steam ofcourse, so dont **** yourself when it starts to look like its smoking )
Once dry, apply the detailer from the other can, this pretty much goes everywhere once again(avoiding alternator, exposed belts and direct into plugs) Wait another 20 ish mins to dry, finish off drying by running the engine till done.
Then I took it for a beat to get it really dry. Job done! Good "Im bored on Sunday job"
