Fitted the Scoobyworld Afterburner + Hayward & Scott decat centre pipe today...

They claim 90db on their site for this config... I question that severely!! Sounds good but really it's a bit too loud. Hoping some dynamat in the boot floor will help, otherwise I fear it may have to go.

The 90 dB measurement (centre and rear) was taken from my car. It sounds a lot louder than that to me too (maybe there was snow on the sensor -- it was snowing a lot...)
IIRC it was 90dB at 4k rpm, 97 dB at 5k rpm.

We did a basic test at a rolling road my after burner gave 85db at 4k, I still have the centre cat and the guy was less than a meter away so its not scientifically accurate.

Just follow some one with a blitz deact system and the Afterburner sounds like a nissan micra

tim,
i have a wagon and fitted an afterburner bb to my full decat system and i could not stand the noise,,it was extereemly loud inside the car,,it seemed to buffer the air around me.
the missus threatened to divorce me,,so i had to change it to an afterburner stealth.
wendy at scoobyworld was very helpfull and prompt in sorting out the problem for me.
its spot on now,,i am well pleased with it.

Ive got an afterburner and was thinking of putting a new centre pipe to get rid of the cat, but now after reading your posts im having second thoughts, its quite loud now !

Do you notice any power increase, boost coming in lower ?

Bit hard to tell as I had rear and centre fitted at the same time, so I don't know what it's like with just the rear.

Subjectively it seems more 'urgent' but that could just be down to the noise (like when you're driving a van you always think you're going faster because it's noisy )

You wont get much more gains from changing the centre cat. You will have better results when you change the downpipe

Well I spent £45 on three rolls of Ivanhoe sound deadening and four hours of my time today covering the entire rear boot, spare wheel well and underneath the rear seats.

It's reduced the in-car noise to an acceptable level now so I'm happy again. I might do the backs of the rear seats as well just for completeness.

Thumbs up

I have an afterburner decat centre and backbox too. When I fitted it it seemed ridiculously loud, but now I hardly even notice it's there!! So I've either got used to it or it's slowly deafening me!!!

It's entirely possible that as the system beds in it will quieten down a bit.

I had a full Hayward & Scott system made for my first Boxster and that was ear bleeding loud when it was first put on, but after a couple of weeks it had quietened down to 'just right' level.

I'm going to get some underlay as well since from looking through past posts that seems to make a worthwhile difference.

Heh,

Sounds like a loud zorst! firstly can anyone send me an MP3 of what it sounds like? and also if there are links to MP3's for the likes of the Blitz NUR and the ninja that would be helpful!

secondly, Who wants to play 'Spot the zorst'? As the one fitted to my car was fitted by a previous owner and so far I can't find any identifying marks on it to work out what make/model it is! I'l post some pics of it tonight if I can get time to take them!

Rear wheels were on the ramps & I had a pair of axle stands in the front jacking points - there was enough room!

Cool

When we did mine, we used one of 4 jacks at the subaru garage! Also, it helps having this as all his special tools, manuals and parts are all there for the use - and it only costs us our personal time, and whatever new parts we use (gaskets etc). Our dealer is very cool - and is not interested in making money. He just likes playing with cars.... and doesnt mind us using his workshop at all.

Hmmm,

Those sound files on scoobyworld are nice, the drive by one is um, well, kinda give you an impression of what the people must think when you drive by!

Two blokes walking down the road,
......vvvVROOOoooommmm............................ ....
Bloke 1: What the **** was that?
Bloke 2: Dunno, fighter jet maybe?
Bloke 1: Hmm, I don't think so, That went past way to quick to be a jet!
Bloke 2: Musta been a scooby then!
Bloke 1: Scooby?!
Bloke 2: Yeah, Ace cars, only problem is, they are worse than jets, as soon as you hear it, it's already gone past into the distance leaving you to eat dirt!
Bloke 1: Damn!
