Why ??

I don't understand this number plate thing ?

Can someone please explain it to me

Anyone can see the number plate of my car, all they have to do is look at while I'm driving around or even when it's parked up.

And his number plate is not all over the net it's on this BBS

But what if it was his number plate could be on any road ??

I think the point is that P1 guy may of been tracking in France, or if he wasn't insured to drive in Europe, now his car is plastered on here wacked up at the Euro tunnel entrance.

I believe the other issue is that if I saw your plate on here I could find out where your car is registered to.

The picture shows a P1 parked up in a car park thats been smashed.

It doesn't necessarily show a P1 that has been taken to France, tracked and then smashed up.

And if I see your number plate in a car park does that then mean I can find out where it's registered?

i think the point about covering up numberplates are that if you were trying to steal scoobys then all you have to do is to use the number plate to track down who the car is registered to and their adress

guys, as i understand it, the danger with showing number plates is that those unscrupulous individuals can steal a similar model car and stick his number plate on it creating a twin, making it appear legal but all motoring offences and stuff are recorded against the registered owners name and address!!!

b@st@rds eh?

OK but I can do the same if I see the number plate on the street?

This may be an obvious place to look but a theif would still have to look for the number plate here where as he may get it by chance on the street.

And if you were looking to buy a P1 I bet you wouldn't buy this one now.

I'm not meaning to be a **** (I can't help it) I just think covering number plates is being a bit ****

Yeah, I think there are several reasons.

As mentioned, insurance companies and/or Subaru themselves could see something they are not meant to.

People can find where you live.

Plates can be copied etc...

Yes, people see your plates every day, but its all about minimising the threat. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people will see it on here. It may also be posted elsewhere on the net in time too. Plus, people in other areas will see it, which is not normally the case day to day. This is the scenario when they can be copied. e.g. if your neighbour has the same car he would be pretty dumb to 'steal' your plate - but if someone sees your plate on here, and lives 300 miles away then they will be able to get away with it (for a while at least).

Anything to minimise such threats is all good in my book. If its your own car then you can post your plate to your hearts content - but its a bit harsh if you post someone elses car and put them/their car/their warranty/insurance etc... at risk.

it's just an **** thing.

if you wanna find a p1 to clone go looking around the dealers sites or autotrader no one bothers covering them up.

if he's worried about his insurance after tracking the car then tough ****. people fraudulently claiming after having accidents on track just ****s up the premiums for everyone else.

I cover up my face when putting pictures on my website so people don't clone me many times over and withdraw money from my face activated bank account.

Note to Car cloners :

Hope I'm not letting too many cats out the bag here but if you go to ANY rail station within an hour and a half of London on ANY weekday you can happily peruse several hundred "nice" cars at a time. Few of these will have had the foresight to leave their number plates obscured......

Deano - but its all about minimising the risk. The point is that putting plates on here could multiply the number of people who see it, hence increasing the risk. Plus my point about the different areas. i.e. someone in newcastle could see a plate on a car in devon and get away much more easily with cloning as the two cars will probably never go near each other/ be seen by the same people etc...

My personal fear is not actually cloning ('though Ghostdog has got me worried ) but people tracking down me/the car.

Wonder if he was returning from a trip to the Koln area? I bet his armco bill was pretty large, those Krauts never miss a trick!

Good work keeping it together enough to drive home!
