Default first mods...Fudpuckers noo ride;)

Copious amounts of swissol

New wheels

Debadged my backside

The pink 'i' badge that the car came with, simply wasn't 'gay enuff',sooo....

and of course, the obligatory 03 mudflaps

I hope it meets with everyones approval so far, despite the fact that its nothing particularly special

..the planned mods, are for a WRC style grille,a front splitter...and then, that is most definately IT!..I'm gonna have to concentrate on paying off the bank loan

Cheers Jon

SSShurely not John lol

I'm a sucker for the Turini's...makes the car look a lot cleaner
and gives a better wheel arch/disc clearance combo than the 19's imho

Jon,

How does the new car compare to your RB5? I'm taking a STI MY04 for a spin next week and I could be tempted to burn a hole in my pocket.

Std 17"'s will have to be the first to go if I go for the STI.

Personally, I prefer the look of the bigger wheels but don't think the pics do either any justice. Would need to see them in the flesh. 19's would make the brake discs look tiny.

Can you think of a better excuse for a big brake upgrade?

That's the best one

So, how do you compare the STI with your new RB5?

Hmmmmm, thats a leading question.....

The RB5 sounds better, as the STi still had the warranty friendly PPP on it, whereas the RB has full de-cat with TSL Group N back box!

The STi has much better build quality, but I already knew that as this is my third classic.

They both handle like a sorted car should.

The STi is a bit quicker, and a different kind of quick, due to the variable valves and the need to work the car higher in the rev range, but the RB is a good bit lighter, so power to weight probably isn't that different.

Which one would I chose?

Lets just say that I'm hoping Elmer keeps the old girl in the same condition as he did the RB, as I may well take her back one day!

Thumbs up

Looks like the Turini's gets the vote

Stefan,it took me a while to adapt to the Sti's different power characteristics as talisman says ,you've gotta rev it a bit more. The 6 speed box too, took some getting used too,but now I've had a couple of good runs it Carlisle/southampton and Southampton to Antwerp and back...I'm absolutely luvving it

My advice......Buy one

I thinks someone is trying to ignore the question, must be very hard to say the old RB was a better handling car.

Ps i'm not puting down your new baby, just a little bit of the green eyed monster.

I'm not trying to ignore the question at all

just don't feel that I can accurately answer Stefans question

I don't do much 'hero' style driving as I've been waiting on a court date for over 7 months which will result in a probable lengthy driving ban

I can say that the Sti is a lot less harsh ride than the RB,easier to drive in traffic, but a lot more bouncy too, once you stretch its legs a bit on the German autobahns

Jon,

Has the STI any suspension upgrades? Mark (Dark on SN) took me for a spin in his MY02 STI yesterday and the car felt much more punchy than my RB5. Certainly felt planted through the corners, but it's difficult to compare until I can get my grubby hands on one.

His STI has the Power Engineering remap, full decat and Prodrive Spings. My RB5 has Eibach's, ARB's, TSL full-decat and a little extra boost ala Mr Dawes.

You're right, the new models just feel more solidly built and mine feels much lighter. I think I need to drive a std one as I'll be a bit disappointed if the new STI's need the PPP to be as quick as a std, lighter classic RB5. I could live with it if it out-handles my car. At the end of the day, I want a fantastic handling car over sheer grunt. A lot of boh would be nice though

Test drive next Wednesday; can't wait

Stefan
