hi guys

glad it works ok, first time posting an mpeg too lol.

I did 6 laps in total over the weekend, by the last one i had tyre squeel believe me, especially near the specators excellent fun.

I did a lot of passenger laps in gutmanns pug too so i kinda learnt the track that way by the end, still a lot of corners that catch you out though, ie wrong gear, braking too early, wrong line etc.

gonna get myself a designated track car me thinks, probably a mk1 golf gti.

May I ask how long it takes to get to the 'ring? Did you take a long weekend? and whats it cost per lap/day.

Thanks and great vid!

EddScott ...... It is 295 miles from Calais, which is about 4 1/2 hours ish .... well worth the drive though.

The website above will tell you all you need to know. Dont go unless your prepared to be adicted though....I bought a car specifally for it I loved it so much

Chris ..... will have a look at the vid when i get home later and the broadband is cranked up. The laps got quicker as we went on and overtaking the escort cossie on the last bend looks real good on my vid. Cheers for doing it for me
I think we only had one real twitchy moment all weekend and that was backing off when chasing that 911 on the downhill section into Adenau ...when that bike decided he wanted the racing line with me halfway past him ........ooops

edd scott, have a look here, very useful site

lap cost varies on how many you buy, the more you get the cheaper it is (1 lap is 14 euros. I got 6 for 73 euros)

Nice one,i enjoyed that,i can see where you lost a little confidance when the Golf and Porsche where passing you,but that does look so much fun.

The most important thing was that you enjoyed it,the feeling when you finnish your 1st lap must be fantastic no matter how late you felt you braked or took the wrong lines.Well done man.

Happy days.

Yeah that was a bit tricky i guess ...... close to loosing it on that one I must admit.

Video looks very good mate, just downloaded it at work. Will watch it properly later though. Shame we didnt have one of you following me later on when I had got to grips with it a bit more. I reckon I was probably 30 seconds quicker then, and a bit better to watch I should think..

So when are you buying a track car then???

to be honest, i was like that all the time. you have to be so aware of whats behind you, constantly looking in your mirrors, especially for the bikers. I pulled over for just about everything that came up behind me just to be on the safe side i think.

a lap from inside gutmanns pug here

gary - not just yet mate. have remap on the sti to contend with in june first, so thats gonna cost me a bit until then (full decat, boost gauge, 3 port solenoid to get and the rest of the remap cost). So looking likely to get one in summer, say august time. Been looking on autotrader and a Mk 1 Golf Gti is looking favourable at the moment.

haha ......i didnt think it would be long till you were looking.

I must admit the golfs were pretty quick. The difference is i guess they have about a million places they can get parts from close by over there. A cheap 200SX would be good but im not sure about repair costs.
At least in the pug a full set of tyres is £160 compared to £160 each in the scoob

After reading the website info its a bit worrying the amount of incidents that occur.

Do you guys have all the insurances covered etc..? I wouldn't mind going but don't really fancy writing my car off or have someone do it for me :0

There were about 6 accidents that I saw over the weekend. It is fair to say its a bit hairy. However if you follow the overtaking on the left only rule and make sure if anything catches you, you get the hell out of its way you should be ok.
As for insurance thats a bone of contention. The 'ring' is actually a german toll road and as such you may be able to argue that its a public road. I have heard tell of this being acceptable, but dont quote me on it. People like L&V give track day cover as standard also.

Its not quite as bad as that website makes you think IMHO and 75% of the crashes are bikes not cars

6 laps over 2 days, did just as many as a passenger with gutmann pug and spectated the rest of the time, really interesting and very different cars going round.

Drive is ok, 90% motorway, plenty of places to stop for a break & fuel (i used just over a full tank), approx 300 miles (4 - 4 1/2 hours) from calais to the ring. last hour of journey is in germany and on some nice A roads.

Accommodation is scarce, not through lack of hotels, they'res plenty, but always booked up - so plan in advance, 50 -70 euros for a room per night. scoff is cheap too.

Sorry, but L&V do not give track day cover as standard! Rang them a couple of weeks ago and was told unequivecably that their policies do not cover track days.

Best you ring them to make sure if you're going on track thinking you're covered.

Well I have it in black & white from L&V that i am covered for trackdays inclusive. i do not need to notify them either when im on track

i asked when i took out the policy and they said i was covered (3 different operators), i then wrote to them and requested it in black & white and i got it.

AFAIK as long as you are road legal you are alowed on the ring.
Because peeps have been dis allowed entry on the premis they have slicks.
too loud exhaust note etc.

In our info (british army forces family federation) they say u have too be road legal to indulge.

That was good enuff for me for the last 30 or so laps

im pretty sure because u have got 2 b road legal ie. Insurance Tax and TÜV or MOT if u prefer. that it is listed as a toll road.

Wurzel or guttmanpug may be more decisive on this answer.

Best bet get extra ya never know u could claim twice LOL

Just to add ive never seen a car towed off then a tow requested like i have seen in the UK.

I may well be wrong i just dont know im taking army advice as far as im confused
i mean concerned.

phil

it might be worth noting that the 3 times when i called and asked (first on initial quote, second on taking out policy & third when my policy docs arrived and track cover wasnt mentioned on the docs) they always went and spoke to the underwriters then confirmed i was covered.

Basically they said as the poilcy didnt have track use in the exclusion section it meant that track use was not excluded. - might be worth having a look at your certificate, if this is the case then wahey.

I wrote to them and after 2 months i got it in black & white (and i also got an apology for the late reply)

looks really great fun Chris, how did your tyres stand up to the ring,
i would imagine it would be better to get an old set of wheels and tyres just for the trip.
(my heart was poundind just watching the clip lol)
