I want to see your in-car PDA pics!
I'm going to be buying a PDA in the next few days to run in conjunction with my Origin B2 for sat-nav in my MY03 WRX. I'd like to see some pics of how people have got their PDA and various bits and bobs set up in their car.
Cheers,
Graham

I've got an IPAQ and was thinking of getting the Tom Tom stuff and a bluetooth GPS receiver.
What's TomTom like? Do people have the camera location software loaded? Is it as reliable / useful as say Origin or Road Angel for GPS camera locating?

I just got my bluetooth reciever and am using it with TomTom at the moment. To me personally it seems much more intuative than Destinator 3. I need to get hold of TomTom 3 then I can use the major roads feature.

thanks for the pics, it looks pretty neatly installed.
I hope to order all the bits and pieces this weekend.
Are there any more scooby drivers running PDAs in their cars willing to post some pics?

OK.
GPS is wired (Tom Tom version that comes as a bundle with the Tom Tom 3 Navigator software).
As you can see, the actual GPS receiver (silver blob in the first picture) sits on a magnetic base which is stuck to the dashboard. The wire is pushed down the back of the dash - the slack wire just hangs in a loop behind the dashboard.
The RJ11 connector on the GPS receiver cable plugs directly into the cradle (top right of the PDA). I've run the cable down the rubber seal to where it meets the dashboard - it just pushes in. The rubber seal will eventually settle down, making it look quite neat. It is then possible to push that cable down in between the dashboard and the A pillar. As I said above, the remaining slack cable is then left to dangle behind the dashboard.
The cable you can just see coming out of the top left hand side of the PDA is for the speaker (the Seideo 2500 cradle has a built in speaker). It's a very short cable - nothing you can do with that, but it is quite neat, so no problem.
The biggest problem is the power cable, which plugs into the bottom right handside of the cradle. They supply a normal cigarette lighter power cable. This is fine if you want to mount the unit in the middle of the dash. It is too short to run across to where I've mounted my PDA.
The way round this is to get an extension cable for the lighter socket. You can get one from Maplin. Cost you £2.99 (about a fiver delivered). The product code is BV47B. This is actually a bit too long, but it does the job.
Run the extension from the cigarette lighter past the ashtray and down the join in the centre console towards the pedals. Remove the lower half of the driver's side dash board (very easy - a couple of screws and plastic plug on the side). Plug the power lead into the cradle and then connect this to the extension cable. Replace the lower dashboard, making sure that the power cable is tucked inside (picture 4 shows this the best). All the slack cable can be secured with some tape on the inside of the lower dash. I am going to get some cable ties and some self adhesive pads to make it a bit neater, but normal electrical tape will do the job.
Thinks that it!

nice and simplish
Think i'm leaning towards a seido mount like yours, with wired kit and ipaq 4150. Fancy the wifi and its only about £25 more than a 2210.
Only question then is what happens when the wife wants to use it? I guess the easiest is to duplicate the GPS+mount and then just swap over the PDA.

You should take a look over at www.brodit.com. They've got all sorts of in car mounts with various mounting positions.
