Bye bye scoob, hello RX7.....
Yep, that's right, the Scoob is going and an RX7 is replacing it. A little while back I had someone approach me about a possible swap of my scoob for an RX7. I've always liked them and was pretty tempted. Well, yesterday I went and had a look at it, and we ended up doing the deal. It's not 100% mint, there are a couple of silly little things that need doing (cracked indicator lens, new guage holder for the boost guage etc.) but it's basically a really nice car.
The paintwork is spot on, and it fires up instantly, indicating good compression. It has 57k on the clock, it came over from Japan with 55k on it so there is a possibility that it has been rebuilt over there. Even if it hasn't been rebuilt, the fact that it has good compression indicates that it shouldn't need one for a while.
When I drove it and the first thing I noticed was how hard it rides, it's on Tein coilovers and is rock solid, but I kind of like that. It certainly goes well, it has been dyno'd at 341bhp/300blft and feels very quick, although my Scoob has slighly more power it has less torque and higher transmission losses, so the RX7 is the faster car, and felt a bit quicker.
I love the way the interior is basically wrapped around you, it's a bit plasticky though, but that's 90's Jap cars for you.
So we did the deal, and as of tomorrow night I'll be the owner of this bad boy:
I've got to be honest, I'll be sad to see my Scoob go, I genuinely love that car and a part of me doesn't want to let her go, but it's time to move on.
So it's goodbye to R*** TKK, You'll be missed
But hello RX7, I've got plans for you.....

Subsy: Yes, it's an angled exit.
About the reliability issue, I've researched it and I think it'll be OK, they just need a bit more maintainance and TLC than the average car, keep on top of it and there's no reason why they should be unreliable.
