Hill climbers :Sign-on here!
Over the last 2 years there seems to be a real rash of Impreza's hill climbing over the country and in far off places too!
I thought it might be interesting to log those who are active or are planning to be on here.

Nearly 40 years of attending hill climbs
I first attended a hillclimb when I was 6 months old, and next year I shall be the big 40.
Dad used to compete in a Frogeye Sprite in the early 1960s so my family have been involved (on and off) for many years in hillclimbs.
He took me to Prestcott when I was a baby, held me by the ankles over the exhaust of a BRM so I could get a flavour of the fumes (not sure what health and safety would say about such actions today).
He was a good friend of Peter Blankstone and his wife (saldy Peter died some years ago). People like Ken MacMaster (BMW 328) are still associates of the family/business.
I then marshalled at Prescott from 1990 to 1997 and was bitten by the hillclimbing bug, and have always been a huge fan of tarmac rallies/sprints.
Moved to Telford in 2003 and have competed at Loton and Curborough in the following:
UK Impreza Turbo, Evo 6 GSR, RS2000 Mark 2 X Pack, 205 GTi and now my STi RA.
One of the best decisions I took to have a go.
Over the past few years I have met some really like minded petrol heads (Graham/911, Rob's Dad (Mick), and the usual suspects who attend most weekends).

Does not need to be expensive - just do it
PS My RA has developed a bloody annoying misfire overnight (I swear this car has a mind of its own).

Looking at it for when I return on posting to the UK, not too many hills let alone events in North Germany. Currently building a V2 STI Track toy. Have been reading Graham's thread with some interest though

Pretty much all myself! Or as much as i can. The block will be sent down to AGRA in Dundee for getting the bearings/crank fitted and the bores honed. Heads will be sent 'somewhere' for matching to the block/pisotns with some mild porting. Mapping will be Andy.F once it's back together if's he's willing/got the time to do it. Alignment will be done by a company in Turrif. 2.5 was done ages ago. I'm just making sure it stays together.

Anyone know the reg's for boot mounted pumps? I take it a need a sealed fire wall for the rear bulkhead if i go down that route..?? Not sure if a walbro will cope with a 20g at full tilt on a 2.5.....

Yes, a fully sealed bulkhead.
My 2 litre with 550cc injectors and the 20g and Walbrow are fine, about 75% duty.
I would think the walbro will deliver more for bigger injectors you might put in a 2,5 (760?)
The 500+ brigade seem to use twin pumps at that level.

740's & sx fpr. Not sure what the 20g will do on a built 2.5 but are the walbro's not rated to 400bhp max? Obviously not with your results Graham! Is there an alternative to the walbro? i.e. still in tank...

You need to ask David Wallis/AndyF I think to be sure.
The 20g on the 2.5 makes people go weak at the knees as a killer 'all-rounder' so great for the hills, but you need a nice box to contain the torque.
I don't think you can rate the pump as 'bhp' more injector flow at a given pressure.
Most run an SX @ 3 bar to the injectors.
I suspect over 400+ you will get into some delivery issues due to injector size needed, but some only need 650 ish cc inj to get the results on a 2.5 with Sti 3 cams etc. and a forged engine (I've read!)
I bought my 20g thinking I would be at 2.5 already, but cash and daughter at University stopped that!
So: an 18g or a 2.5 forged bottom end?

Although an 18g would be a far cheaper avenue to go down for experimenting with and you could always go 2.5 at a later date. Just be sure to stick the 20g on the shelf and not sell it!

Planning to go hill climbing next year, provided Japanese bureaucracy doesn't f**k things uo even more than they have done. There's already been a 10 week delay in deregistering my car

Ah well, next year there will be 20g on all three sizes(2.0/2.2/2.5). Interesting....
Maybe with the developement of the scoobies on here during the next year/2nd year we might learn a thing or two about whats best suited for the hills....

I really appreciated everything about my 18g on the old lump.
I was logging almost every run to find any areas on the map that could be improved upon
With a fair bit of tweaking to map and boost profile we had it singing, so much so that when we started to run 5% methanol the timing it was taking at the top end was phenominal, and the 18g was right there making solid boost the whole time.
In the end we backed it off to save the gearbox and to follow a "normal" smooth torquey nature to it.
I recorded 380bhp and 385ft-lbs at Janspeed on a 2.0L standard engine with just an sti6 gearbox, peak power was at 6100 and peak torque at 3850.
The thing I dont like about Janspeed is that the fan is pititful and they only turn it on at 4000rpms incase the coolant temp drops.
Because of this the boost was naturally tailing off whereas on the road it was 1.65bar all the way to 7000, then 1.5 bar to 8000.
Im getting tearful, sorry for the off topic ramblings.
Now I have managed to procure an ej22t I feel good about the project again, so wouldnt stop now.
But, there were definately times where I thought long and hard about reverting back to the old setup. I kept all the parts for as long as possible just in case!
