You have a ltd edition Subaru,be proud of it as it is.It doesn't need you to cheapen it with painted rear lights, dumb valves and peculiar number plates, thats all.

I used to own one myself you know, hence I felt the need to express my concern

appreciate the concern...

however engine mods would never stay standard with any car i own ltd edition or not... all bits are removeable...

rather than go for sti lights (like most RB owners) i went for something different... + it suits the colour very well...

fact is i have changed parts exterior wise that are minor and dont affect the status of the car...

they seem to like it over on rb50c.com

but hey each to their own..

fact is if you can find me more than one rb5 that is COMPLETELY standard... i would be

This guy is not saying keep your car standard.... but, dont make a perfectly good looking car into a cheap looking car with all the tacky stuff.

well the tinted lights are a subtle way to detango, now if they were lexus lights then i could agree... tacky...

dump valve agree can be a bit chavvy i know that but i hadnt had one for so long and missed the sound....

the no. plate welll.. its square like an import and has a subaru logo...

what exactly is tacky about that???

i do appreciate constructive critisism aswell....

Right first off Id say it is your car so you do as you wish. However with regards to "how does it look tacky". well the whole idea of giving a UK limited edition impreza a Jap look is tacky to be honest. It gives it that Grey import feel.

Personally I would have made one or two changes on Elmers car also even though i liked it but at the end of the day it still seemed like a RB5 to me.

Not saying yours doesnt look like a RB5 but with the vinyled number on the back and rear as well as the lights, it seems a tad "not genuine". Its hard to say that as it comes in the one off cool grey but im sure you know what i mean.

i see what your saying fella... but if you had seen my last no.plate you would see why i changed it... its hooooge....

+ i went for a rectangular plate rather than a square one... they look better than stanard UK shaped plates....

the sticker was something my mate did me for free, i just wanted to see how they looked... imo gives it a personal touch..

Anger - im on to it mate....

OK - my opinion (FWIW!!) )

I can see what you're trying to do - and "hat's off" to you for your efforts so far.

If you're going to smoke/de-tango the car, do the same smoke all around the car

The plate sizes look fine - the font is awful.

I like the idea of the #096, but IMHO, they're far too big.
IMHO, the RB5 is a classic limited edition, and should be modded with sympathetic "upgrades".........

The #096 should be MUCH smaller - in line with the rest of the decals (good idea though).

Engine mods-wise, nothing wrong with the stuff you're looking at. The dump-valve is a personal thing (I hate em!), I'd also look at a panel filter instead as the classics (99/00) have very sensitive MAFs......

Keep it up, but just bear in mind that Scoobynet is full of die-hard traditionalists, faithful to the brand. That's why you might get some less-than-favorable feedback regarding you car. Particularly as the RB5 was one of THE best limited editions

Cheers dan... appreciate the comments...

yeh i agree with the scoobynet users, its the same every where (sxoc etc)

going for smoked all round apart from the fronts (clear)

ive had a 3 page thread on the stickers on rb5oc and i agree there too big, but i'm waiting for my mate to come back from S.A. so he can do me some smaller ones...

the pipercross filter ive gone for came off a fellow rb5 owner and he recomends it.. so we'll see how it runs with it on....

the DV i find annoying after a while and on my sx's and r32 i owned i took them off after a while and settled for the loud peogin sound..

n.b. what does FWIW mean???

FWIW = For What It's Worth.

I agree with Dan about the #96, it just doesn't look right. I'd try and match the style, size, and positioning that appears on the plaque that's inside the car.

Here are some of my very standard RB5 WR Sport.
Have to agree that there aren't many std ones left.
This is not a bad thing and there are some very nice ones over at RB5OC.
But have seen some shockers from time to time on ebay.

Jon, I totally agree with you..he has somewhat spoilt his RB5 with those rear tinted lights, funkey plates.

But if all scoobys where the same, live would be borning.

Yours was the nicest looking RB5 and maybe perhaps the best looking/looked after Subaru Impreza on these boards when you had it. it was 'JUST SEX ON RUBBER'

Lets just sit here and laugh as this bloke throws his hard earned cash at this unfortunate RB5 with his tacky add-ons and then spare a thought for the poor fella when he comes to sell it and cannot understand why its not worth anything near as much as a standard RB.
