Looks like a nice bit of kit. Which FMIC is it?
I fitted a HKS one and had to masacre the front bumper, it looks like yours is still in one piece!
Did you have to move the rad?

Steve,

It's a Pace Products Kit.
No bumper cutting required.

The radiator is a new uprated alloy one which is shorter to allow the FMIC pipework, and its basically in the same place. The air con rad had to be moved back a few cm's too.

i will take some pictures - but my engine bay looks a lot more fuller than yours - any chance of taking a picture of just the engine bay from above?

Yes will do ChristianR.

The smaller dia pipe for the ic was slightly modified from the way they designed it (I think) - probably whats different.

Take a look at these - if you want anymore i'll take some.

Thanks Dom

Christian, will take some tomorrow for you

Rob, thanks
Using a PPP ECU atm. Thinking whether to go the full whack with a Link (not for some time - need to save up!) or go for a boost controller to cure the overboost problem we are now getting and to up the boost slightly.

Car pulls very very strong all the way up the revs with the fmic.

Christian, any better?

It's probably the small dia pipe that differs from yours. Let me know tho, get some pics up

Excuse me for being stupid. But what does an FMIC do?
Does it give you better cooling for more power?
Will you now remove the scoop for better Aerodynamics?

Ed.

Basically, as I understand it, it gives superior cooling of the air entering the engine from the turbo. Cooler, denser air = bigger bang = more power, or something Im sure someone will say thats not quite right

It also helps stop the heat build up from the engine when sitting in traffic.

Downside though, is extra piping = more lag. Its not that great - not as great as some people make it out to be. Just you can notice that there is more lag.

Not planning on removing the scoop as we like the look of it as it is. Was thinking about blocking it off, but then it will catch air - slow us down! Will have a think.

Mole > looking good, yours too CR. Mole - given you have a nice dinky number plate, would it not be better off mounted over the bumper to give you a little more airflow. I believe a few have done this with little extention pieces to move the plate up and forward nicely

Hi Mole, CR,

Just out of interest, did you have to replace the standard air filter/box with a "cone" to get the pipework installed ok?

Where's the MAF sensor?

Cheers

Gazza

mook,

Not sure about moving the plate yet. It's something to think about!

ga33a,

I believe you would have to replace the standard airbox with a "cone" type to allow the pipework to fit, although we already had the Pipercross, which was a bit tight!

Our MAF is on there, on the end of the standard black hose - I think CR has a link (IIRC) so doesn't need one.

CR, I see the difference - in the small dia pipe. We used the standard black 90deg bend off of the turbo - just how we did it at the time. You used the new blue 45deg. I think thats how it differs anyway.

Question

Christian,

Do you think it may be because you both have different cars, as one is a MY99 and the other is a MY98. I know the blow off/dump valve is located in different places, the MY99 has the phase 2 engine with a slightly different engine layout.

but it is the same kit though so the piping should be the same, i.e. the big one that goes from the fmic to the top

Not really sure tbh. Pipe looks basically the same, different dumpvalve mount for sure.
