JDM Bugeye WRX compared to UK spec:
JDM Good points: standard 247bhp; close ratio gears (inc lower 5th); higher spec interior; nicer headlamps
JDM Bad points (I think!): lower spec brakes; possibly 16" wheels (although mine are 17"), unknown service and owner history
There are also some idiosynchracies like some stereo buttons in Japanese and the rear window wiper.
I plumped for it because I hadn't been overly-impressed with the acceleration of a standard 218bhp UK WRX that I test drove. I know you can get much more from them, but I'm not particularly mechanically minded and just wanted to get an unmodified ready-to-drive car that was already fast without paying STi money. An HKS Silent Hi-Power cat-back exhaust I'm about to get fitted should get me up to about 260bhp without any drama. That'll have to do. It's actually the missus' car after all...

Both the 218bhp UK/European and 247bhp JDM engines are 2.0 litres, but I think the big difference is the Active Valve Control System (AVCS) that the JDM WRX has. I believe that the UK/European Bugeye STi has this technology but not the WRX. There may well be other reasons too, but I think that this is the main one.
By the way I also think the suspension is firmer on a JDM.
