Yeah, glad I found it before I did more damage. Couldn't even tell that there was something wrong with it when driving.
All the tyres are 215/35/18.

i'm pretty rubbish at reading sideways, but if that says nangkang on your tyres that'll be the problem. not good tyres at all.
if i've read it wrong then sorry. pretty severe rubbing issue there!

Simply because a tyre is made by a certain firm, will NOT make it wear like that, what rubbish...... that tyre is simply rubbing on something like the spring platform or similar....... oh, and it's definately f***ed....... best check the rest quick smart!!

I'd say get the car up in the air and have a real good route around, rubbing like that has got to have maked something under the wheel arche, look for all the use things, something smooth, bent etc...
When was the last time you have the car on a hunter system? Getting that looked into is a good idea.
I bet you're well glad you find out now and not on the motorway!!!! Lucky Lucky Lucky. I've seen many an accident on motorways caused by tyre blows outs, not pretty at all.

An old mate had exactly this on his Vectra GSI. The top mount bushes had failed and the suspension geometry was screwed resulting in the spring cup rubbing on the tyre. Worth a check

I've had a look and doesn't seem to be rubbing anywhere? Although that was in the garage and in the dark. The offside front tyre is shaping the same way, so looks like both fronts are f'd. Full lock on the steering both ways and still not touching anything. 2 finger gap to the struts at the front and half a finger gap to the struts at the rear, but the rear tyres are fine?
With the car being AWD, best bet would be to replace all 4. Not happy at all as the tyres have a lot of life left in them!
Tyres are Nankang Ultra Sport NS-2s, which were on the car when I bought it.

Are you serious?
That is not a n alignment problem, unlessyou're running stupid soft pressures.
Your tyres have been rubbing on something, whether on your car or another. How long have you owned the car?
Are the wheel arch liners firmly fixed?
How about the under-tray? At rest it can look OK, but at 70mph it will be distorted and may rub on your tyres.
Or a brake hose?
IT should be pretty easy to spot what it's been rubbing on; it will be nice and shiny!
Good luck.

If you think that cant happen from alignment then you know very little on the subject.

I've owned the car for a year and a bit. I think frayz could be right, but won't know until I have a proper look in the daylight and get the geometry checked.

It looks like it could be both
1. Alignment because if you look at where the tread has worn on the 'top' of the tyre compared to the other side.
2. Rubbing on the sidewall where the step has been cut into it.
I reckon it could be a bushing which has been on its way out then completely gone... or the camber bolts might have done something funny.

Hi mate i fit tyres and this is more common than you realise , The worst are bmw's and run flat's , no one ever check's their pressures and they never wear evenley and when the allignhment is out the insids rip thru like yours just they seem to think they have a puncture but its actually a gaping hole on the inside wall ,nothing rubbing just wheel alignment !! its a free check in most places mate and will rule it out so get it checked asap! best is a 4 wheel alligment for acuracy
