V4 STi Type R - Budget track build
trackscotland.co.uk :: View topic - Track Impreza STi V4 Type R
Put a deposit down on it, and hopefully pick it up next week. Bought for me to use on track.... to stop me wrecking the Skyline so much. Fee is using that in TimeAttack.
some of the spec that I was told/and saw...
TEIN Coilovers
CUSCO ARB's and braces from what I can see - poss drop links too
Greddy FMIC
Greddy Hardpipes
Unknown induction kit
Uprated fuel pump
HKS hyper exhaust
uprated headers (said to be equal length but not convinced)
SARD boost guage
Turbo Timer - will prob sell on.
Adjustable rear wing
gay wing mirrors - will sell on and replace with something like wee SPA GT ones.
17" Advans.... one is dented though :/ Anyone selling one? Or know where to source one in the UK?
Interior is pretty clean - to sell
Exterior is straight but has a few flat bits of paintwork. Who cares :P
Plans so far:
* Service, check it over
* Strip interior
* Remove aircon
* Remove unused brackets etc
* Fit bigger brakes
* Fit 888's and source 2nd set of rims for slicks.
* Baffle Sump, Swirl Pot
.... then take it from there

..
Nice example, make sure you get it mapped for UK fuel before you start tracking it, best standalone management system to go for is the Apexi Power FC or the slightly dearer Simtek

Hi Adam,
Looks like a nice base car to start with!
I had exactly the same planned too when i started with a boggo standard UK Turbo Wagon. The bug bit and now i'm starting to shell out some significant numbers for new toys!!!
I'll try to be along to the Trackscotland day you're running in March so i'll no doubt see you there!
Cheers
James

looks like I'll be putting Fee's plate on it... its been on retention since we sold the black TypeR a while back.
Will get in touch with these guys about fixing the advan. Will be cheaper than sourcing a single one I think.
Ian Jemison Engineering, Alloy Wheel Repairs, Porsche Boxster Rallycar, Bishopthorpe York, 703863
Any links to simple off the shelf oil catch tank and pipe work? I.e the pipes from the breathers, and drain to sump with a banjo bolt I suppose (rather than tap the sump)

got it home now... had a wee run to go get dinner. Seems fine.... a wee noise around 3-4krpm that wasnt there last week. Not sure what it is but it just sounds like something rattling.
also got some spares... 6 speedlines, 2 fog light covers and a steering wheel boss.

Righto...
Stripped the boot out - Spare wheel, all trim, Rear wiper etc - a good 20kg perhaps
Stripped the AirCon out, bar the rad - maybe 15kg saved.
Done some poking around... Its running a SARD ECU, and hitting 1.5bar in 5th... would have been a fair amount of load as it was uphill. Hitting 1.0bar in 3rd on flat.
Coilovers are TEIN Sport Spec Type HR's - ???
Its running aftermarket headers, BUT standard down pipe and front pipe with BOTH cats still seemingly inplace.
I'm sure the rattly noise is an exhaust gasket or heatshield. Whilst on the rollers there didnt seem to be any DET or untoward knocking. It ran 274bhp and 227lb/ft... boost peaked around 19.5psi and fueling was quite rich, or safe enough.
pics of todays pish..... Big thanks to Russ at WP for fitting me in this afternoon.

Hopefully have found the cause of the noise...
the drivers side manifold/header is missing a stud and you can feel it blowing.....
Also removed the heatsheild from the centre section and found a hole in the OE exhaust. Ahhwell... any excuse for an upgrade! May as well just replace it all from the turbo back... 3"
Car also seems to be nice and clean underneith. Will aim to get a thin coat of underseal on it.

Thats the car sounding better and possibly feeling a bit perkier too
Of the possible 6 studs/nuts for the manifold only 1 was tight! Replaced the missing stud and nipped up the rest. No blowing felt and a much less ticky sound. Also patched the hole in the down pipe and redid the gasket with some gasket paste at down pipe to centre section as you could see soot on the underside of the car. Not overly fussed on quality of those repairs as it'll as be getting replaced!
EVO coolent pipe of and silicon one on. Not the best fit, but much better than the Evo one that was just hanging on.
Really handy having the ramp to sort things out

Can I ask how much you paid for the car. I've been keeping an eye on that one amongst others and I'm curious as to how much the difference is between asking price and selling price? Lovely car tho mate- well done. If I had the money I'd snap up a similar one in a heartbeat!!!
